What are you doing for Model Railroad Month?

November is Model Railroad month, and the Virginia Beach Central Library will have modular railroad layouts on two weekends. This weekend the HO scale branch-line layout of the Great Lakes & South-Eastern is set up and operating.

These carfloat modules are newly done by Ron Wampler. I supplied some appropriate rolling stock to load on the float. Like most harbors, there seems to some trash floating on the water [:-^].

These two pictures are of a pair of former main-line (NMRA standard) modules. The GLSE crew bought them and converted them to our branchline standards.

This halfway done module is a junction between the GLSE branchline and my main line Tidewater & Albemarle modules. As soon as I move to a new place, I will get the scenery started.

In addition to the Library show, the GLSE will have a layout set up at the Military Aviation Museum the weekend after Thanksgiving. This is the first “Trains and Planes Weekend”, which will feature Santa arriving in a red bi-plane. We are hoping this is the start of an annual event.

Very nice work, and a very nice way to expose the mundanes to model railroading without scaring them off.

When I was in Nashville, a local modular club secured the use of a storefront close to the Post Office for a Model Railroad Month display. Their module transport was a caboose-detailed trailer, and they left it sitting in the parking lot across from the storefront. Generated quite a bit of traffic.

This month, my own major concern is personal health issues. My layout isn’t in any condition to show off, is not designed for public access and I’m married to a paranoid who is obsesso about staying below the radar. I doubt that any of my neighbors know there’s a model railroad behind that roll-up garage door. Unless they are forum members and can backtrack this post to locate my home computer, they probably never will.

Thanks for the pics John.

Hmm, seems I was born in the correct month. All I’ll be doing is hopefully completing the trackwork and wiring of my layout, along with more ballasting and finishing up three boxcars. And for my b-day, hopefully a new airbrush and LHS gift certificate, which means some goodies for a couple projects.
