What are your other interests?

Other than trains, what other hobbies and interest are you into?

Me: Full size trains, would like to have 1/8 scale trains some day. Ford pickups, Mustangs, Muscle cars, exotic cars, Hot Wheels, Erector sets, lawnmowers, farm machinery, news and politics (conservative), common sense approach to the environment and energy resources, downhill skiing, photography, religion and beatiful women.

Mopar musclecars, specificall my '69 road runner, WWll history, antique hunting with the wife

My family and my kids are first and foremost my greatest interest. As for hobbies…

I got into this hobby because of my kids. I had no interest in trains, real or toy before I bought my kids a train set for Christmas. It’s been fun.

I have rebuilt a muscle car from the ground up, built award winning scale models, and have had my water color paintings displayed in national galleries.

Each hobby has been fun and rewarding in its own way. And I have enjoyed the challenges and the learning process each one has presented me. But one has always given way to the next. I wonder what the next one will be.

Mine are Astronomy (use a 12.5" dia f6 newtonian along with Binoculars and 4.5" grab and go scope) and now miniature live steam. See www.cockcrow.co.uk for the miniature railway almost in my backyard (a few miles from my home). It really is amazing with 3 signal offices and prototype operation of signals.

Depends upon what day of the week it is.

No, seriously, I have several other interests but not nearly enough time or money to persue them like I want to.

I have been interested in photography for years. Took a few courses, bought some “flash” equipment, specialty lens etc. Took all the fun out of taking pictures. Even did a little wedding photography.

Used to like Nascar racing a lot. These days I find it is more Nasboring. The company I work for (wonder how much longer I can say that?) sponsors a NHRA top fuel dragster and I like to keep up with that sport.

I have had a fondness for woodworking since I was a sophmore in high school and took my first woodshop class. My dad was heavy into woodworking for several years. He wasn’t able to do much the last year or two though, health issues. When he passed, I got some his radial arm saw and a few other items. I have spent quite a bit of money (at least a new JLC Big Boy’s worth) recently on woodworking equipment. Now I just need to get my shop setup and actually use it.

Probably be one heck of an estate auction when I’m gone. LOL

I collect and restore antique outboard motors, like woodworking, but my fovorite hobby is trying to get my son to move out so I can have a train room[:-^]

Flying light and ultalight fixed wing aircraft, motorcycles, and R/C aircraft.

R/C cars and helicopters, target shooting (M16 rifle), GM cars, Japanese Koi keeping, E85 fuel.

I fired 2 rounds from an M16 that was brand new out of a box and it jammed. That was 1967 off the flight deck of the USS Tripoli, right before making an assault by helicopter into the DMZ in Vietnam. That weapon killed a lot of people because it wasn’t ready for the field when we were forced to use it. The AK47 was a much more reliable weapon, and it looked like junk. Hope they have improved the M16 some since then.

But I digress. I like flying regular planes and RC planes besides playing with trains.

Great thread!

Hobbies include collecting movies and a few television shows on dvds and certain authors’ books, toy trains, woodworking, and video games. Most of this has been pushed aside in the past 2 years or so with work on the house, finishing the basement and stuff like that [:(] Oh well, when I’m done, I’ll have a nice little woodworking area, an area for a layout, and hopefully a big tv! I may never come out of the basement! [(-D]

Football, Football, and Football! Infact im watching the buckeyes pound Penn State as I type this…

I haven’t done anything lately, but I used to get into a couple of operas every year.

I’m also partial to old Volvos and just bought my fourth one. One of my sons has caught this from me and now has a 1964 Amazon and a Swedish girl friend, met when he went to see the Volvo museum in Gothenburg.

Scattered I am, just scattered…

OK, Mopars (I have a '70 roadrunner convertible 1 of 179, and a '73 Satellite project, 360), collect ceramic firehouses (retired volly firefighter), diecast firetrucks, hot wheels (anyone need some?), firefighting tactics/strategy, car cruises/shows and road rallys. Lately I’ve been taking pictures of the FEC railroad at a local crossing, so that may be something of interest. Plus working at the LHS and learning more from my sensei…!!!

Oh, forgot, also a pretty good drag racer up until I got married…Raceway Park @ Englishtown was my home track…(yup made a few bucks too!)

I have two young adorable daughters that keep things hopping…

I started the trains up a couple of years ago, to keep my sanity, as my free time appears in 15-minute blocks or so, and disappears, just as quickly as it appears. I enjoy tinkering with wrecks I find, and bring them back to life.

Before we had our children, I remodelled our house…down to the studs, knocked out walls…electrical, plumbing… the whole shebang. I find wood working very relaxing, and have been lured into metal working and soldering (brass, and steel) thru the train hobby. Next I plan to learn more about metal and resin casting, and persue that.

I also, managed a sound team of 8 for our Church, but time restrictions caused me to cut back for awhile.

LAZ,

Sent you an e-mail about fishing.

What takes up most of my free time is study. I am 3 years into becoming and ordained deacon, I have 13 months to go to ordination. My wife and I are very envolved in World Wide Marriage Encounter, a marriage enrichment program. I also enjoy carpentry, I am adding a 20 x 30 garage addition onto my 24/30 garage. I also enjoy building furniture.
