Buy the DC (non-sound) version and add a Tsunami. I would AVOID the MRC decoder.

The MRC decoders are junk.[xx(]
The MRC sound decoder is not good. I spent hours with mine after my Athearn Challenger stopped responding to the throttle. The documenation is very poor too.
The MRC decoder is crappy junk![soapbox][xx(]

Really weally crappy MRC Decoder junk on the pyrimid please.
Buy the ready for DCC version and install a quality decoder yourself.
Look at all the people jumping on the Lets Bash MRC Band wagon, lol. I have actual first hand knowledge with the MRC decoder in question and just like David said, stay away from it.
I have to agree MRC sound decoders are better untouched. My dad had me install one in a bachmann steamer and it loses its address and doesnt like to respond. And then he got the Challanger and it sounds god awful. Unfortunately I messed up the plug wires on it taking a part and have to send it into get fixed.
I don’t have any experience with that decoder, but I’m still behind David on this one. Too many complaints on this and other forums about managing them. A chorus of disappointed and frustrated people can’t be entirely wrong.
MRC is bad I agree! I could gag when I hear the MRCs.
Ray,
May I suggest providing a “clickable” link to the specific auction rather than trying to cut and paste it all into your post? Perhaps something like the following:
Or, something descript to explain what it is:
4-8-4 with MRC decoder on eBay
Otherwise, it’s visual overload and ackward to try and decipher.

I don’t think this is a bash MRC thread. I would also say stay away from MRC decoders, because of the problems with the decoders. This is a problem for me because I like Athearn locomotives, and they have some with sound that I would like to own. Too many problems reported with the MRC sound decoders. Lets hope they improve.
I have no information regarding MRC DCC, but if someone wanted a quality DC power pack I would highly recommend MRC. I have purchased several when I ran DC. A few years ago I purchased a train set for my nephew. The set had an inexpensive power pack, but I also purchased a nice mid-level MRC power pack for him.

I would just like to say that my MRC DCC athearn challenger has never had an issue. Sure it doesn’t sound as nice as my trix mike, but the speaker blew in my mike and the challenger has not missed a beat so i guess it doesn’t sound half bad now. Now excuse me while i go find some wood to knock on.
