What Bridge This Is and Tower ?

I got his on Ebay for $ 20.00 … wanting something different … seller does’nt know who made it or what the type is … any suggestions or help ? It’s 27 " long … 5 1/2 " wide … 6" high … metal . Seems like an ideal bridge to scratchbuild/copy . No name stamped on it anywhere … of course someone painted over any decals or painted name . Attic find … some areas riveted together … real rivets from the factory. The tower was a $9.00 item … looks like a ore or ??? tower … am not that familiar with lionel buildings and etc.

I’m not sure about the Bridge, it could be Lionel or Marx. They appear on the Bay from time to time.

The other is a Lionel Automatic Ore Loader, but I’m not sure of the year.

I think you did good on the price!

Kurt

The bridge, I don’t know. I doubt if it’s Marx or Lionel though.

The ore loader I know. It was a new item issued by MPC Lionel in the 1970s, I believe it was reissued only once after that. It actually works well but like most loaders it"s messy.

Great thanks guys for the info … i thought maybe when i bought the ore loader … as I now find out what it is for sure … I could use it for scratch building or converting to something . The bridge I think I’ll use as a pattern and do a couple more like it … probably with wood … again thanks millions for all your help … SJ … good to see you again buddy ! Kpolak … always a pleasure to chat with you … you 2 are among the great guys on the forum !

I agree, that isn’t a Marx bridge. Would a photo of the painted over decal(s) be available? Might help tilt a synapse…

the decals are history … guess whoever painted it removed them before painting

Ya know, the WESTERN MARYLAND for a while had a manganese operation inside Knobmount yard. That little donkey tower , painted black, would look pretty handsome with a string of oxide red hoppers standing around…

The bridge could be a Colber. It was a company in Irvington, NJ who made accessories for O gauge trains. I believe there were several companies like that at the time that made such pieces. I have one that looks just like your photo, but it is original silver/gray. The decal was on the topside of the floor pan, at the edge of one side. I also have another bridge from the same company, but is more detailed.

Just happen to check an auction site that I use and they had a tower as you show for auction. It is called a Sandy Andy:

Hope this helps.

Thanks dennis … [tup] … helped alot … I did’nt get any box or pics . Fifey … bought that set of gold miners panning and the pack mules and coolies … maybe i can add them near a creek at the ore tower . Just bought a brand new can of satin black … great idea . But my engines are too new vintage … wait heck people still panned for gold in the 40’s … I looked up prospectors and there are still a few out west with burros … prospecting and panning now . I still have my pan from years ago … by golly I’d like to go again … gonna throw it by the wife … never got rich … but it was fun . Always wanted to go to that diamond area in arkansas too … might make a very fun vacation !

Dennis I think you hit it right on the head with Colber also ! Thanks buddy !
