I’ll be going to Wilmington, NC for the month of May.
Can anyone tell me where I should go to see mailine rail action on the weekend?
Thanks![:)]
I guess there is not a whole lot of railfan action in good ol’ Wilmington, huh?
Turns out I didn’t go anyway!
Thanks.
I drive through Wilminton once or twice a year on my way from the airport at Raleigh to the Myrtl Beach area where my parents are retired and I seldom see anything. There are some tracks but most mainlines I believe are more inland than Wilmington.
The real action is over in Hamlet, or up in Rocky Mount. Wilmington is served by CSX, but I not sure as to what extent.
My forte is Western NC. It might be a more interesting destination for you…
There is, however, a really good Atlantic Coast Line Museum in downtown Wilmington. It gives a good feel for the historic significance that Wilmington used to have. It has some equipment on site, as well as the usual museum type displays.
Highly recommended.
What about Davis yard in Wilmington.
