If you are trying to be prototypical, It depends what your particular road used for coloring. The bottom line: YOU are the railroad baron and can color it any which way you want.

tstage is correct, not only are teh colors railroad specific, but era specific as well. CB&Q buildings were Indian Red with Bronze Green trim until the 50’s (I think), then they started painting everything white. Even then, you had mixtures of the two paint schemes. If you model a particular road, the color of the structures can really help “make it real”.

this is the main station here in the middle of Melbourne, Victoria, and as you can see, would be a pain to model! I think I would like something more modern… and probably white too, otherwise concrete. Danny
