Two things - the pictures were taken AFTER the removal of the passenger platform at the mouth of the hole.
Second, note the track chart with the lowest point being approximately 10 feet or so above 0 as identified on the chart (or sea level) - The Inner Harbor area of Baltimore is about 3 or 4 blocks East of the Camden Street Portal - with the clearance ‘improvements’ that have been made since the track chart was drawn the track level is currently at or slightly below sea level - this is no problem, until severe weather with heavy precipitation happens, then with all the leaking water mains and storm sewers that end up draining into the tunnel, along with natures own the pump that have been place at the low point can’t keep up with all the water and the tunnel will be shut down from time to time until the water recedes - it is even worse when all this takes pla
