What did the PRR 6200 turbine sound like?

I have a 671 turbine that I’d like to convert to TMCC and maybe put a fan driven smoke unit. Anyone ever wonder about what sounds to use in a Railsounds conversion?

Chuff? No chuff? Just a high piched whine? GG1 sounds? The photos I’ve seen reveal just a little-tiny itty-bitty valve gear on the front driver. I guess I’ve seen those on later models of the 6200.

What I was told a few years ago was “WHOOSH!”

My understanding is that that is a lubricator, not valve gear.

Lionel has made two TMCC/RS versions of this engine. The CC1 671 version with two different RS tenders and a full scale version with RS tender. The primary sound is one continuous chuff that varies in intensity according to the voltage/speed (load) applied.

While probably close to prototypical it’s not all that endearing or interesting.

since it’s a turbine it won’t have chuffs, so I think a continuous steamhiss or something like that…
