I decided to start a thread where we could all show and/or tell what we did on our layouts recently.
The last time I did anything with my trains a few days ago, I got my decoder back from Digitrax and it works great also. I also went down to the local hobby shop to put in an order for an NCE P2KSR decoder. That will go in my P2K GP30. I gotta get a TCS T1 decoder for my GP9 Ph.III loco also, but that’ll be another time. Aside from all that decoder stuff, I did get my trackwork on my layout done and I got it wired also. Hopefully I can start planning scenery soon[:)]
Me too, but I did take some time this evening to switch out a pair of trucks under one of my tank cars. Replacing the OEM parts with ones that are more detailed, and with closer-to-scale flanges.
I tried to catch the PC heritage unit as it was in my area but after 2 hours of waiting it never showed. Had to head home and get some things done. Might head down to the basement later.
I had discovered that an Atlas Snap track #4 turnout had shed its outside point rail track, and that I had only # 4 Custom Line turnouts on hand. So today, I re-laid the switch OOPS: turnout , and the 20 some inches of connecting track to the next turnout. OOPS, again! Cut the flex track 31/32 of an inch too short. Oh, well: needed somewhere to drop the power line, any how, so no real loss (Yes, I’m still using DC common ground block control.) Was driving the last spike on the new rail when my goodwife called “Supper is ready.” Guess you could call that good timing all around. Happy modeling, all. JWH
It’s a work day, so, well, I worked. But, I still kept track of what’s going on here. I posted a picture or two of what I’ve accomplished.
I went to the supermarket, got caught in traffic and got home, finally. Made veal Parmagiana, with asparagus and fettucine alfredo, and flew a (simulated) 737 from Wilmington, NC, to Philadelphia.
Friday’s not really a train day for me. Tomorrow, though, I’ve got work to do…
For the Layout?
I’m out…
I am building 2 AMB Caboose LaserKits, cores boxed, added the roof trusses assemblies, wetted & strapped the curved roofs to a bottle to shape the roofs, & planned out painting sides & ends.
Also, catching them up to a 3rd that is partially done, & all will be assembly line them when I catch them up.
Also had some other ideas concerning Loco lighting, & parts ordering.
After the football game, I’m heading down to the layout to do some wiring for the drop down bridge. Its almost done finally. Still need to ballast, then cut the rails.
I did two loads of laundry, mowed part of my lawn, worked on some scenery for a new T-Trak module and began developing the signal circuits for a T-Trak yard I built two years ago.
Unlike David B, I didn’t have to work today. That’s because I am retired and I haven’t turned 60 yet[yeah].
I know - don’t rub it in! Sorry.
Anyhow, as far as trains go, I picked up my Riverossi 4-4-0 from the post office. I haven’t run it yet but everything looks fine - no damage that I can see.
I also cleaned up the window glazing in my rail truck project. Stupid me managed to put a small scratch in one window. Next time I will use a dull tip to remove the excess Micro Kyrstal Klear.
The project for tonight is to paint the roofs on the rail car. I haven’t decided on what colour just yet. I will have to go back to the proto web sites to see what they did.
Wife and I have hosted our two grandsons and their mother for the past six weeks. Most nights I sit at the computer near supper or bedtime with one or both grandsons on my lap while I play youtube steam locomotive videos. They love it! Today, I took them into the loft above the garage and let them see the trains run for a while. Found some iffy track (got out a ‘new’ steamer to try on the layout, and there’s almost always a part of the rails I have to adjust for new steamers) when I turned the train on the wye, and called a halt at that point. Still, got about 20 minutes of roundy-round in to thrill the boys.
Me and two other guys struggled mightily to move an oak entertainment center that has to weight about 500lbs up three steps and over a four inch threshold into our house. Other than that I was able to modify a trestle module from my fixed layout to use on my portable layout.
Was going to move my 79 Corvette, from one side of the garage,to the other side away from all the shop tools on the half side,of a 21/2 car garage…Should have taken less than 10 minutes, wound up spending 31/2 hours doing it…Battery was near dead, charged Batt and moved car…Then try to find out, what is draining the Batt…After a lot of fiddling, found out the door switch on the drivers side took a crap and the dome light stayed on all the time…Did not drive the car at night for about 5 yrs,I probably would have known then,Oh well!! After that,I did not do ‘‘nuttin’’,it was 86 here yesterday…
I did nothing on my layout. However the R/C Flying Club I belong to needed to set-up for our annual Fun Fly happening this weekend. I am the contest director for this event so I was there in the thick of it. Putting up tents, placing signs, moving equipment and etc.
My layout sees little action, from the end of April to the beginning of October as I do other hobbies and activities during that time.
