What did you "score" on Ebay today?

I’ve been looking to 22" curves and came upon a Bachmann’s Digital Commander set listed under tracks for $50 with free shipping, no box. This set - with DCC Santa Fe’s GP 40 and FT-A, DCC Commander and tracks - retails around $150 or so at a show, Bachmann list is $290. The GP40 with a DCC controller alone is about $100 on Ebay. So if everything works, that’s a steal!

About a month ago, I was just browsing around, and found a set of Amtrak FP40H with 3 passenger cars for $20 shipped. When I got it, the loco needed cleaning, but once lubed it works as new, and all body work is immaculate. The 3 cars have good wheels, interior and lights. The guy threw in - this never happens - 4th car (no lights, plastic wheels and all windows were out but included in a baggy) and a book about Amtrak in 70/80’s, and personal note! Talk about value added! The set is roughly valued at about $80. All I have to do is fix that one car, add the baggage car I already had, and I have the Pennsylvanian from the 80’s (according to the book, back then it was 4 cars and mail car!).

I’m still looking for the 22" curves though to run the pax cars.

Yes, Ebay can certainly give some good bargains. Here’s what I scooped up today:

Brass HOn3 Sunset models C-16, with the Locodoc upgrade kit already installed. Undercarriage was already painted, will just need a tune-up. $315. Caboose Hobbies has the same model without the upgrade for $345.

There was someone who was almost as determined to get this model as I was - hope it wasn’t anyone on here…[:-^]

Been E Bay free for 2 years now. I hardly know where to start with the stuff I got off E Bay, between cars parts, stereo equipment, die cast cars and trains I have spent around $30,000.00.

I think my best score was a set of 15 DPM buildings that where built by a Pro. Got all the building for $80.00 with shipping! The paint work is out standing on them. If the seller sold them separate I think he could have got them for $10 to $20.00 each.

I’m very selective, meaning that I don’t even go there without a specific item in mind. That said, I picked up 3 Type 21 Proto tank cars, different road numbers, all new in the box. These went out of production a couple of years ago. Walthers has announced a new release for later this year, but the ones I got were half the price of the new ones. And, the seller paid the shipping.

I snagged an ABA set of Genesis F units in Rio Grande for $75 with free shipping the other day, they arrived a couple of days ago and are in perfect condition.

All I ever check is the “buy-it-now” listings and if I really followed it I’m certain I could find “something” almost every day. There have been days however when I’ve stumbled into several items at one time. Sort of makes you swallow hard before you punch the “buy” button though.

I picked up a brass HOn3 Westside T-12 for $150 a few days back.

I got a new Kadee SLSF 40" boxcar for $10.95 plus shipping. With a “buy it now” I got a BLI Western Pacific California Zephyr dome car for $55 that I needed to round out my Zephyr passenger train. I like Ebay and have not had any problems in years. Like was said above with careful lurking you can score some good deals. [:)]

Just to be fair I picked up some other goodies from local store or show. Like the Walther’s Proto1000 F40PH in defunct Florida Fun-Train livery for $15 at a recent show or the seemingly endless supply of $2 freight cars that just need wheels and couplers at the hobby store.

My latest score just monday is a NKP Brass South Shore #23 coach, I was watching the end for sniping and doing my own, readied my bid and sent it, never knowing if you get outbid, because other snipers can be on it as well.

These end biddings are such a barn burner, you son’t know till you hit the refresh if you won.

Didnt happen, the price stayed under 200 bucks.

I was searching out turnouts not too long ago, found a few good deals, but, all of a sudden someone had a hoard of code 83 PECO and Walthers and Shinohara turnouts, many were installed on the layout, reason he gave up on them was he could not figure out the wiring for all rail frogs so he was going to get DCC friendly insulated frogs, I looked over what he was selling and it was perfect for me I needed turnouts like that like crazy. Musta been about 20ish turnouts, #5s mostly a few others, a crossing etc this or that included, I think it went around 200 bucks or close, not exactly cheap, but way under the new prices. Phew, new switches are like 30 bucks? ouch. That makes me want to go back to hand laying.

Probably a big deal buy non-ebay was my local Hobby shop having 2 boxes of locos and cars, sold them all for 25 bucks, inside, a Bowser K4, a Varney F3 A-B units and another Varney Baldwin switcher, plus a variety of older make cars, many in pretty good shape.

None of the engines ran, mostly from gunked up dirt, all they took was some TLC and they run just fine! The K4 is a winner, even tho I am not a big PRR fan, and not modeling it on my layout, it will get my usual modeling care.

Now I have another ebay win to do tomorrow, but I aint gonna reveal that one, but it aint cheap, but something I want.

Got my purchase today. The FT-A and GP40 skipped a little at first but are running good. Couple scratches, broken railing on GP40. The cars were good, caboose has a broken railing. Some couplers are missing the spring. Two pieces of EZ track are missing the rail, no idea why would anyone take it off. Had to download manual for the EZ Command. Two extra power packs, and two items are missing, one wire and a magnet for decoupling. It was still worth it!

Picked up a hardly used LH 100 Lenz throttle for $125.00 and no shipping. It’s been upgraded to V 3.6 and the seller threw in a throttle pocket. No manual, but downloaded it from the Lenz site and voila! I had to do a reset, but it works perfectly[Y]. Gerry S.
