hello to everyone im not sur what im saying here but i was givin 5 old trains sets and was wondering what i have here they range from 1948 to 1960 and 2- ho scale sets from 1974 that were a promo set for polaroid and never taken out of the boxes all are in good shape.the large trains only got use at christmas around the tree. looking for info on this stuff
thanks doug
Don’t open any boxes that aren’t open if you don’t plan to keep it. That would lower the collectors value. You could sell it on eBay. You may want to contact someone who can tell you what you have. But don’t get curious and ruin any packaging until your sure what you’re going to do. Dan
all the big stuff has no boxes only the ho scale is in the boxes. the big trains there are like 25 cars some are electric as well. one is a passanger set i have all the logs and barralls as well a bottle of hwite tablets that say smoke pills alot of track a lighted train station , plastic sighs and electric polls and a little car the number on it is 50 has two guys setting on it a work car i think and alot more
Hi Doug
[#welcome] to Model Railroader forum!
However you may have better luck posting this request in Classic Toy Trains Magazine forum. What you have, maybe with the exception of the HO scale sets, are toy trains. Just click on this link to go there http://www.trains.com/community/forum/default.asp?CAT_ID=5
You might want to pick up a copy of Classic Toy Trains Magazine to see if there is any info as to where or who does toy train appraisals. You can also find hobby shops that specializes in toy trains in your area, listed in the back of the magizine, that may help you identify what you have.
If you want to sell them get at least three appraisals before you do. If you want keep and insure them, double or tripple the appraised value. That’s probabbly what they would cost to replace them.
As for the HO scale sets, unless they’re brass, they may not be worth more than a few bucks. Do you know what brand they are? Athearn made sets back then and are worth much more than, say, a Tyco, Bachman or Model power.
Good Luck! [tup]
i recall seein something about a book published by Kalambach for apprasing toy trains… maybe someone has a link to it?

[#welcome] Try getting one of those greenberg guides
Well, I have a Greenberg guide and if you list off what all of the bigger (these would be Lionel O gauge) trains you have with their numbers, I can tell you the values of them.
