I’m shaping (surforming) my first pink-foam hills; making some holes for inserting my plaster-cast rocks formations, etc. What is the best material to use to “seal” the sirface of the foam? I tried Dave Frary’s suggestion of half sheetrock mud, half water, but it seemed too watery to me; I could use Sculptamold too, but I almost hate to use it for such a pedestrian task, although that is where i’ll go next unless one of you has a better idea.
You can use most anything you want to seal the surface–except nothing oil based, which would eat the foam.
I’m modeling the desert, so on a major part of the layout, I just used a good quality interior latex paint tinted to match the color of the sand I’m using, and then I sprinkled real sand into the paint while it was still wet. Then I went back later and sprinkled a little bit of Woodland Scenics foam onto it and sprayed it with diluted white glue.
You could also use a latex primer first.
