Any body buy Overland or might be too expenise $$$ ?

No Broadway! To expensive for you right now. Go with KATO or Atlas or Athearn RTR.

Athearn, Atlas, Kato and Proto 2000 for me.

broadway limited , kato and Atlas DCC sound

Broadway are expensive ?
New Zealand sell very cheap than USA I found from " Trademe.co.nz " only New Zealand not for oversea

Personally I like S Helper, but then I’m in S scale.

The best locmotive for your layout is what fit’s what you plan on modeling!

Unless you’re going to strip & repaint locomotives Atlas or Kato may not make a locomotive that has the railroad you want to “model”.
Look around, see what you want on the way of locomotives & find out who makes them.

For me, I love SD40-2’s but I hated the paint on the Kato CPR units so I stuck with Athearn.

Just my 2 cents!! [:D]

Brass models generally still get premium prices, partly because they are mostly hand assembled and partly because the brass market has a large “collectors” following keeping the prices high. Most of the modern diesels start at around 400-500 bucks and go up from there - the sky’s the limit.

Atlas- Great
Kato- Great
Proto- Great
Athearn-Good
Spectrum- Not worth the money, poor runners

overlands new “Tower55” line of PLASTIC engines looks promising- i like the ES44DC but the m.s.r.p. is $259 w/o DCC and sound http://www.tower55products.com/main.php?scale=HO&type=Diesel&series=GE%20Evolution%20Series&prod=BNSF+ES44DC+New+H3+Scheme

Most of my recent locomotives have been Atlas. I’m becomeing an Alco-holic and Atlas seems to make the best Alcos. Before that, the majority of my fleet was Athearn Blue Box Geeps. As long as I keep the wheels clean, they still run like a dream.

With regards to Athearn, they do offer varying products of different caliber to suit your taste and budget. It would be important to distinguish between the Standard Athearn models with the metal grab irons many of us are familiar with, which require the assembly of the grab irons, the newer RTR (Ready To Run) models and the top of the line Genesis series.

As for brass, it’s mainly for collectors now. At one time it offered much more detail than plastic models ever could but now with the advancement in injection molding we are seeing some plastic models that almost rival some of the brass of yesteryear and even today. For the price of 1 brass locomotive, you can purchase 2 or 3 highly detailed digitally equipped plastic models with sound. I have since sold off my brass collection except for my first piece for sentimental reasons and was able to finance my new fleet and then some, although I model European prototypes now and the equipment is generally more expensive to start with.

[V] I found that SD60 price was USD $900
NZD$1,000 around I think I can’t afford it but I like overland because 100% full detail than other locomotive and worth lots of money to sell it
