What engines is conrail using for locals?
Conrail is no longer here only Conrail Shared Assets since 1999. Do you mean CSX or NS? They own Conrail NS 58% CSX 42 %
kevin
It appears he means CSAO.
Hey osker. I know NS & CSX own shared assets since 1999, but their are shared assets that NS & CSX couldn’t agree on that’s why conrail company is still around.
Yes i mean CSAO to.
CSAO does not own engines, it uses whatever engines are on train as it arrives on their corner of railroad.
Are you sure?
CSX and NS had designated a batch of locomotives that were assigned

Are these engines then owned by Conrail or do there respected railroads own them and assign then for service on Conrail. Do they have Corail reporting marks or did they get the reporting marks of there home roads? As always ENJOY.
They may have been assigned to CSAO in the merger, but many of the listed locomotives never actually went there. I know for a fact that many of the listed B23-7s have been sold to other railroads or scrapped. I’m sure a number of the other units identified are similarly gone.
LC
Conrail’s Detroit District uses GP15-1s and GP38-2s. Most have the CSAO flags.
Ian
They’re owned by the respective RR’s. As for the markings, most if not all have been renumbered into NS’s and CSX’s numbering systems, but there are still plenty left with the rest of the CR sheme intact.
As for what’s assigned where, it’s pretty much GP38-2’s and GP40-2’s here in Philly for the locals with SW1001’s for yard power.
Thank you for your reply. Would it be safe to say that as a railroad Conrail is now a large branchline network with several large joint switching operations? As always ENJOY
