What engines will work on 6.5' dia curves?

OK All, I am going to try this once again! [:D]

I am planning a simple OUTDOOR loop to complement my LS indoor layout, however I want to be able to run engines that are not an option on the indoor layout, which has R1 curves and I can only run small industrial critters on it.

Outside I can get a 25 -30 foot long folded dogbone layout with a passing siding into a raised planter I will build. I plan to go with Aristo 6-1/2 foot dia curved track, and LGB R3 switches. This is the widest I can use.

My question is…Will the following list of B’mann engines work on this diameter of 6-1/2 feet? I need to know what I can plan for using:

2-8-0 Spectrum Connie

2-6-0 Spectrum Mogul

4-4-0 Spectrum American

Spectrum Heisler

Also for my indoor layout, will the following work on the R1 curves?

Spectrum Shay

Spectrum Climax

Thanks All. Vic [8D]

Hey Vic,
I’ll list the ones I know for sure. Connie…no…needs 8’. Far as I know Yes on the 2-6-0 and the 4-4-0. Heisler should even go on 4’ curves. Shay and Climax will both work on R1 since they are two truck locos. Did I read this right!!! You are going outdoors??? Wow…how did ya’ manage this? Does your wife know yet? Just buggin’ ya. Have fun planning! Later eh…Brian.

Hey Brian,

What do you mean does his wife know?
In LA the question is: do the neighbours know![;)][}:)][:D][:D]

Any LGB

Ian

Hi Vic,
Definate no on the Connie, 8’ minimum and the front sticks way out on that. 10’ is better for this particular beast.

Its still hush-hush right now. The area in question is where my wife wants to move the garage and put a studio, but thats a while off, so in the mean time…

I have two boxes of curves, one AC 6.5’ diameter and 5’ diameter and two LGB R3 switches. I want to use what I have, so I have to decide if I cant run what i want, should I even build it? I have a plan for a dogbone layout between two raised planters with a rock garden in each one. Something easily to dismantle if we ever get around to the garage project.

Thats a bummer about the Connie, I would really like to have that one. I also want the 4-4-0, and/or a Climax if I can still find one.

Vic,
Last time I looked there were still a few Climax to be had. Not sure on the 4-4-0. GR is to have a review on the Heisler this month. Still waiting for my copy. Usually shows up by the 10th. I would just go ahead and build with the promise that if she really wants it out later you will move it. Notice I said MOVE??? Funny how things can go. Later eh…Brian.

Vic if you send me your email address I will send you a photo of my reversing loop, it as all R1 curves with a few straights, This is pure hell for any train but all of mine can go through it without trouble, now that i have fixed a few problems to do with fast growing palms and a curve problem that has still got me beat. I have replaced it and all is fine but I can’t find anything wrong with it! Strange but true.
