I have a few broken stirrups on a box car. I have some .032 wire, but I think that may be just a tad too thick. What is the recommended wire gauge to replace them?

10 AWG for grabs is about the correct 1", but I prefer 12 AWG for a bit more strength. As for the stirrups, you’ll need flat stock, not wire, A-line makes several different flat metal stirrups which work great, and won’t break the bank.
OK, thanks!
I have just been looking at some protype pics, and their stirrups are all round like the grabs, and look to be about the same size. Hmmm…

A-line has three types of steps, formed with flat strap. http://www.internettrains.com/
usually has them in stock. They look much better than round wire.
Oh yeah, those are nice. Thanks guys.
