What Ground Throws with Powered Frogs?

I’ve finished hand laying my first turnout and am ready to connect my switch rod to “something”. The frog is isolated and the turnout wired for DCC operation. It seems the only commercial solution is high priced like tortoise, etc. For a manual operation, am I limited to mickey mousing a manual ground throw using a SPDT switch and wire, etc. Or is there something out there to buy? What have some of you done? Thanks.

The humpyard switch levers work great and have directions for a frog switching mechenism. I did not use it. It is not much cheaper than the tortoise, but works great for hand switching. Some day I may have to power my frogs, but I have run for a year without it, so I don’t know when.

How about these?

Can I ask exactly what you are looking to do?

Do you want a scale groundthrow that works the switch and electrics at the same time OR do you want a throw somewhere like the facia that you can get a good hold of, will drive an electrical switch as well as the hand laid switch plus driving a model ground throw through the tie bar?

Pcarrell: Thanks, I somehow missed seeing these on Caboose Industries site. Looks to be a good solution and cheaper than Tortoise. Wish they had the working target as well. Hal

Arthill: I like the humpyard switches too, but like you say, kind of high priced. Hal

Dave: Phil had my one solution… but I can see the need for the fascia solution in hard to reach places. What do you suggest for this that’s cheaper than Tortoise? You have another solution like Phil’s for that option too? Thanks. Hal

Check out the switch stand on the home page of the caboose industries page too. You might find a use for that as well.
