What happened to the Mellor Company?

I was wondering about the Mellor Company. I remember that they sold cab kits and parts for the Mantua Line. Anyone know what happened to them or any info?

Thanks in advance,

Jim

A Google search turned up no such listing, so they must have gone out of business. Many companies of this type are a single owner or hobbyist who decides to retire or simply doesn’t sell enough to make a profit so the company folds.

Jim - As far as I can recall, they ceased operations years ago with, I believe, the passing of the company’s owner. Mellor had been around for decades and in addition to its brass parts had even produced some wonderful booklets on how to dramatically modify Mantua and similar locomotives using their products. There was some talk of the company’s dies being bought up after the closing but I never have seen any indication of a start-up by any new owner. A shame, as they had some really nice kitbashing items.

Mellor died a few years ago. His wife, to the best of my knowledge, sold off any remaining inventory. It’s too bad, he made some neat stuff for detailing/bashing Mantua locomotives. I still have his book on creating a light Mike, Heavy Hudson, Wabash Hudson, etc.

I have seen Mellor parts on Ebay from time to time.
