What Has Been Most Helpful From This Forum For You?

I enjoy seeing the wide variety of model railroads. At a point in life with little time or money, for the hobby.

Some years ago, I put up a basic 4x8 on plywood. Provides a place to run trains and take pics.

The train room is also a great place to relax.

Perhaps I will build a more elaborate one in retirement.

The images in this site show what can be accomplished.

To say what this site gives me in a single word… Inspiration.

Cheers!

William

I’m strictly speaking of my experiences. Of course, no critique should be given unless asked for, ever.

I love looking at all the pictures that everyone posts. I find a lot of inspiration just looking at them.

So thanks to each and everyone who has posted a picture on the forum.

It was thru this forum that I met new model railroading friends in my own area. When I posted some pics of my layout along with the track plan, one of the members suggested I try hosting an op session. After a few weeks of his coaxing, I finally agreed,

So, with much fear and trepidation, I invited him and a few of his friends over, Got a lot of encouraging comments mixed with some constructive criticism. I had more fun that evening than I ever thought I would!

Without hesitation, it is the help with DCC decoders, controls and wiring. If it weren’t for this forum I most likely would not have gone to DCC! I have had more help with DCC than any other phase of the hobby and after 2 years of DCC, I am comfortable in doing any kind of decoder installation, with and without sound. I always know I can get answers to any question and that is something I don’t have locally. I also like the photos posted for inspiration, help and sometimes just showing off what we can do! Great service to the hobby.

The most appreciated? Patient and knowledgeable help when something I’ve done has proved to be on the stupid side. The most gratifying? Having the more experienced forum members not scream any louder than strictly necessary when I’ve inadvertently stomped on their toes…

Stu

Stu,I’ve done that over the years and the scary part is it worked quite well regardless of what my modeling friends thought…

Of course there’s the few times I wondered why I even thought a idea would work-of course I keep such boo-boos quiet.[:O]

I suppose its a true saying…Model Railroading is so simple a kid can do it —until he starts listening to others.

I have to agree with Willy. I’ve gotten so many good ideas from so many members of the forum.

For me it has been the absolute wealth of knowledge that is out there among so many people and the patience (for the most pasrt) that we all have with one another. I know I have posted some probably basic questions on here and even though they may have been answered hundreds of times, the responses are always there.

The other thing I would say is the respect we show for one another’s work. This seems to come out many times as we all are trying to make our private worlds the best we can.

Thanks to everyone for all your help!!

without the forums, my understanding of model railroading would be limited to what i read in magazine and learn at the hobby shop.

the forums allow me to ask questions. Needless to say, i’ll often get more than enough answers. In the best of case i’ll get a response from someone with exactly the experience i’m looking for (e.g. my railroad, the same engine or electronic gear, the same problem). And it’s great to share my own experience and hopefully help someone as i’ve been helped.

What the forums lacks is magazine article length read, instead of just questions It might be interesting if modelers would post magazine length descriptions of projects they worked on, with pictures of course. Descriptions of their railroad, how-tos, projects. why wait for the magazine.

thanks to all for making the forum what it is, greg
