What if NS did Heritage paint schemes like UP?

UP is painting some individual new EMDs in heritage schemes. WP and MP have been done so far with more to come.

If NS were to do the same, which would you like to see?

Pick your top 5.

Here’s some possiblities based on heritage of significant mainline track owned by NS:

PRR five stripe tuscan
PRR five stripe black (OK, “Brunswick Green”)
PRR single stripe tuscan or black
PRR keystone only
NYC lightning stripe gray
NYC lightning stripe black
NYC “cigar band”
NW blue
NW black
SOU green (4610 is already out there)
SOU black
Wabash (cream and blue?)
NKP “bluebird”
NKP black with end stripes
Erie-Lackawanna gray, maroon and yellow (with black)
Erie cream and green
Reading cream and green
LV dark red with black stripes (ala PAs)
LV white
LV red with B&W ends
LV gray and yellow
Conrail blue (those SD70s would count, I suppose)

and possibly:

CNJ green
CNJ “coast guard” red

although most of the significant part of the CNJ left belongs to NJT.

or, how about a couple of tuscan and dulux gold SD70Ms in NS scheme to pull the business cars?

others?

I would get a little excited to see a geep 38 (which the valley had) in a classic LV red paint.

Here’s what I’d like:

Conrail
Conrail
Conrail
Conrail
Conrail

…and here’s what I think they’d do:

N&W Maroon & Gold
Southern
Conrail “Quality”

I doubt NS would do heritage schemes, BUT I do think there’s a chance of seeing a couple maroon & gold SD70M’s (maybe -2’s) in the future.

I forgot to list CofGA, but, if Atlanta ever gets it’s commuter rail network, there’s a good chance that’ll be their paint scheme.

Some years back, N&W painted five C30-7’s and one SD40-2 in tuscan red with gold lettering for business train service. They also wound up in the general freight pool.

Conrail also painted its E8A’s for business train service in Brunswick green with gold lettering.

I agree with dougal, about both the colors they would pick and the likelihood of it even happening.

How about:
Wabash
Illinois Terminal
Interstate
Virginian
Lehigh & Hudson River

ES40DC Wabash unit would be interesting to see.

I’m going to have to agree with dougal on this one. I would like to see a Conrail Quaility heritage unit and a PRR heritage unit. I honestly don’t care what PRR paint scheme they want to go by, I would just be happy to see one.
NOW… really I would like to see CSX decide to put out some heritage units like C&O for example, the Chessie kitten. I would really love to see Chessie System heritage units. I would also love to see some Family Lines System paint action going on allong with B&O.

CSX should really get back into the marketing and PR of their system, improve morale, and pu***he entire railroad forward. Bring back the kitten! “Chessie Atlantic Transportation Corporation” and “Chessie Atlantic Railroad” would be great names to replace the bland (and “temporary”) CSX. The Chessie kitten would also look sharp on their current paint scheme!

I also think BNSF is going in the wrong direction with its name and logo change [:(!] – the latest paint schemes look sharp though!

NS doesn’t own the rights to the name Pennsylvania Railroad, AFAIK, so I don’t think you’d ever see that one. Probably the only reason UP is painting it’s units is so it can justify charging model railroad companies a liscensing fee for those names.

That being said I’d love to see some PRR units running the rails again, and really any fallen flags would be great to see. Something different from the black and white and blue and white and I always see now.

Not only is the new CSX paint bland, there’s not enough of the bright colors . . . more collisons. I was thinking Chessie Seaboard System as the name instead of CSX . . . annoying when they play w/ AAR rules . . . or is it FRA . . . ? Wasn’t Ward in marketing on Cheesie? Something brighter and not so drab. . .

Just my [censored][2c]

I like the dark blue, I don’t think it’s all that drab, much better than solid grey! Remember that a similar B&O scheme used to be called “dress blues” back in Chessie days. Besides, the nose is yellow, and the new FRA reflective regulations will add some nice new patches of yellow to the side sill.

And I still like “Chessie Atlantic Transportation”… [;)] (Wonder what Mookie would think of that…)

I would like to see more southern green and some black, also some central of georgia

I’d love to see some but the “N&W” part of the current NS was never big on putting too much time or money into “cosmetics” maybe the “Southern” part get them fired up a bit.

first if they did use Chessie Seaboard System that will have a problem with Comcast Sports South or (CSS).I would like NS to paint some engines in NW,CR and SR but thats my choices but, I don’t think they would do that.

PS according to a freind in Chattanooga NS painted 2 F units in Southern colors and some coaches.

CSS is a reporting mark that already is held by the South Shore Line which was controlled (94% of stock) by C&O from about 1964 to the early 1980’s.

Even NS heritage is black, N&W, PC, NKP…

I have to agree with dougal 100%. Bring back CONRAIL! NS SUCKS.
