Will a 2 amp Panel Controller work for my N Scale Layout.
Also what is a 2 amp hand controller?

If you have not received any replies it is probably because people do not know what you are talking about. Can you make your question more clearer?
Are you talking about a power pack - a unit that you plug into the electricity and use it to control your trains?

pavariangoo: If you could provide us with some sort of link to this “panel controller”/“hand controller” it would be more helpful. The terms aren’t immediately recognizable, so my guess is you’re not describing the product adequately.
At least taking an educated guess, though, I would assume that by “controller” they mean a DCC controller, and the “panel” part refers to the part that sits on a table and the “hand controller” refers to a hand-held controller–a control unit you hold in your hand.
DCC is kind of different–you need to have a DCC chip in each locomotive. If you’re afraid and ignorant of things electronic, you’re definitely not going to want to deal with DCC.
That being said, let me make one thing clear–ANY DC powerpack/controller will be MORE THAN ENOUGH TO POWER YOUR LITTEL 3x5 FOOT N SCALE LAYOUT. It doesn’t matter which one, they are ALL more than powerful enough in terms of producing enough electricity to make your trains move.
The difference is in how WELL they make your trains move. A cheap trainset powerpack will make them move too fast and jerkily and they won’t have much slow-speed control–you’ll be able to make them go fast or not at all. A more expensive DC powerpack will give better slow-speed control, smoother operation and sometimes other features like momentum. These powerpacks are no more difficult to hook up than a cheapo trainset one.
And if you’re that unsteady with electronics, maybe you should ask your dad to help you set it up…
A Panel Controller is probably one made to have the control knob and pushbuttons installed on a control panel, with the actual transformer and electronics located elsewhere, instead of being in a hand-held or separate enclosure.
Please note my answer to your question about the Power Mite. Since you live in Australia where the household mains current is 230 Volts, 50 Hertz, you must purchase a transformer made for sale in Australia. People in the U.S. who have been answering your questions might not realize where you live, and the power packs they are recommending might not be available in AU. Go to a local hobby shop and get one made for Australian voltage with an Australian plug on the end of the cord, and it will suffice for your small layout.
