what is best way to bond paper board to foam?

I am using heavy paper board for a road surface that needs to be bonded to foam I used to rise the entire area. what works best to bond the two without rippling the paper board? thanks in advance

I like Aileen’s Tacky Glue for anything with paper. It’s a low-price craft store item. If you practice “good glue hygiene” and always clean the tip and keep the cap on, it will last for years in the container.

It goes on white and dries clear. It has a long working time. I find it does not soak through the paper, so it’s great for stuff you’ve printed on an ink-jet printer, like signs or building interiors.

I have looked at a lot of model building sites of all genres, just to try and educate myself. One thing I noticed is rubber cement appears to be popular when trying to mate paper to things. I have had good success using it in these applications. I don’t know how it would be with foam, a small experiment may be in order.[:O]

I thinnk a test is in order, hadn’t thought of rubber cement. thanks

Make sure You test the water soluable rubber cement…it may still attack the foam. The solvent base surely will. Some water base rubber cement has Alcohol and another chemical in it, that evaporates, but may still attack foam.

Something to read about rubber cement:

I would just use Titebond Wood Glue brushed on, water cleanup.

Use it a lot on Military Diorama’s on foam.

The more people that you talk to on this subject, the wider range of opinions and options you will find. Everyone who has had success will have their own favored way of doing this. Key steprs in bonding paperboard to foam are first using an adhesive that will bond to-but not attack the foam.Very frustrating to have the foam dissolve due to a solvent in the adhesive.

Second characterstic needed is a product that sets slowly enough that the moisture in the adhesive can work its way out of the bonding area without distorting the paperboad. Adhesives that penetrate and set fast will distort, warp and ripple the paperboard every time.

Recommendation: choose a matte medium product at the craft store and apply it thinly and evenly. Keep weights over the entire surface while the matte medium is drying-do not remove for at least 8 hours and you will have excellent results. Yes, I have a preference of product . Ask for a product from Crafter’s Pick called “Ultimate Tacky”. It has less water in it than the popular Aileen’s product and I have found that it is better at bonding a wider range of materials than other adhesives.

The above reason is why I prefer Wood Glue, which sets in 30 minutes and weights and clamps if used can be removed. Just can’t put any stress on it for 24 hours. Built many Suydam mattboard/wood kits of old and still have them to this day. Today there are many adhesives made that have great results. Just have to be careful what you use on foam.
