The cars in the photo were heading south on CSX out of Queensgate. Correct answers will get the poster(s) an atta boy.

It looks like sections of snow fence, like you’d see along the interstate in Wyoming. I never knew they shipped it pre-built by rail![:o)]
This is just a guest, but I have seen oversize metal pieces shipped by truck on diagonal frames (the diagonal is larger than either the height or width of the clearance box) – so maybe these are large metal sections. The cars look to be sufficiently heavy in construction for that kind of weight.

We use things like that to move pre assembled switch panels…
Pre-stressed concrete sections (walls, liners)?
Those flat cars almost look like single stack car tubs, but I suspect that they aren’t. Did you happen to get a reporting mark and number off any of these, Jay?
I second the motion!
Carl-
Looks like I may have goofed and put the cars on the wrong railroad. Make it NS rather than CSX. Both have yard tracks right in back of Cincinnati Union Station and I don’t take notes. Best I can get when I zoom in on my screen is SOU 991021, possibly 591021, or try 99 or 59021.
I was using the 75x300 lense at the 300 zoom, and only a very eagle eyed yardmaster could have read the marks from the distance. Let us know what you see in the RER.

Sonw fences? In Wyoming? NEVER!! They put those up as Antelope hurdles!
If they’re in the Southern 990000s, they’re non-revenue cars and won’t be shown in the ORER. However, then I’d go along with the switch-panel theory. Since these things don’t get narrower at one end, I’d go so far as to suggest that we’re looking at a crossover assembly. Wonder what MC will say.
The switch panel answerers are correct. I too like the jet blast answer though[:D]

Thanks for the shot, Dale! Those things look like they could be assembly jigs and transporters combined. Details eagerly anticipated!
To help you out, they rotate flat to allow the turnout panel to be lowered down in the horizontal, then tied down, at which point they tilt the bed over to move the car.
(I cheated some; we had a few turnouts delivered on similar cars)

Here’s what you need the JPDs for:
Another day, another step forward in the collective knowledge of the Trains.com forum members.
Gold stars to the winners, points for trying. Truth is, I didn’t know the answer for sure until I got some help off forum.
Thank’s to Mutt for letting me use his photo archive site and Dale “I can find anything” (nanaimo73) for coming up with a better shot of the equipment.
Oh yea, read Ed for the explanation and the mudchicken reported off line that the cars are used for turnouts with concrete ties. Heavy, man.

Not necessarily! Around here the only carry turnouts with wooden ties. I guess it depends on which RR is using them.
