what is it worth?

i was over at my dads house today and i found an old train set i used to play with as a little boy. its a lionel 8021 with all the cars still in the box. its a little weathered as the with time all things do, but the engine is in good shape and all the cars ( 9 of them) all look good also. i was just wondering if it was worth anything and if it is how much. if you have any idea on where i should go to find out a price on this item please let me know. thank you

Unless we have a lionel member who knows the set, your next best bet would be www.ebay.com
scroll down to toys & hobbies, click on GO. model rr, and then O scale.

Another suggestion would be to place your question on the “Classic Toy Train” forum. Good luck, Ken

Well, what you have is a Lionel MPC set from the 1970’s. The engines are Santa Fe Warbonnet Alco PA locomotives. The A unit (the powered engine with a cab), which should be numbered 8020, is worth $65 in good condition and $85 in excellent condition. The B unit (unpowered engine without a cab), which is 8021, is worth $45 good, $60 excellent. If you list the individual numbers for each of the cars, I can give you exact values for each of them, but I would probably estimate that they would be worth about $10 each. The track and transformer have little value. Of course as a boxed set, the value would be higher than the combined individual values.

That’s a great response. Doesn’ t get any better.
