What is Jersey Central green

Hi all,

I’m having a little trouble finding Jersey Central green and was wondering if there’s something close in the Model Master or Poly Scale lines. I’d prefer to go with Enamel if possible but Acrylic will work if need be.

J.P.

Going through some of the Testors Model Master colors there are a couple of greens that look close but I don’t have a good eye for matching colors.

Euro Green FS39042 though it might be a little too blue

Medium Field Green FS34095

Forest Green FS34127

Dark green FS34079, might be good lightened a little with??? yellow?

Thanks

John

I just looked over a few photos on RR Picture Archives. The green you are referring to was used on Trainmasters? If so…from the photos I was looking at the green was dark with a blue shift. Photos are deceptive. Hmm!

Checked CNJ historical sites, none offerering modeler info…too bad.

I would like to do a couple of CNJ units as Reading run though power.

Scalecoat has no CNJ specific colors. Will be a tough match up.

Sounds like the proverbial question, what is British Racing Green.

Yes but the difference is, I can grab a bunch of different bottles of paint labled British Racing Green…I can’t find a single bottle of paint labled New Jersey Central green or Central New Jersey Green or CNJ green ect…

Try this site www.tomsmodeltrains.net Tom sells tru-color paints which has a CNJ Deep Sea Green color (TCP-233) and also a CNJ Austerity Green color (TCP-232). He sells primarily thru that noted auction site. I have purchased CNJ decals and the Deep Sea Green paint from him and he has been very dependable. I have yet to use the paint, but the color seems to match up well with factory painted CNJ models I have.

Hope this helps,

Kevin

The deep sea green looks correct for the earlier all-green scheme (with the yellow stripes). The austerity green would be the later all-green versions.

Hmm, I like the looks of their Pullman Green for my Reading units, too, have to try some of that. Scalecoat Pullman Green seems to be the closest, the P2K locos are a bit on the dark side, PollyScale Pullman Green matches those. Scalecoat is supposed to match the Stewart/Bowser units but it doesn’t, the Bowser color is more olive.

Thanks for the tip guys I’ll checkout Tom’s. I did some experimenting and found Testors Euro Dark Green (FS 39042) is a close match compared to an Atlas N scale H15-44 in CNJ livery. It’s a tad light but I think a drop or two of black or very dark blue will get it close for my eyes. I painted some test swatches on some white styrene. I’ll post some pics when I can.

So that begs another question, should I use black or a dark blue to darken the color?

Try looking at Micro-Mark’s Microlux new hobby Acrylics paints, they have a lot of Green’s and they state that the new paint perfectly matches PollyScale paint colors.
