I have an undecorated Bachmann 3 truck Shay that has a sound install by Litchfield station. Unfortunately, I didn’t write down the address and I don’t even know the make of the decoder!
I have an NCE power pro system and a program track. What can I do to determine this locos address. Failing that, how can I set it to factory default.
Default address is 3. If it was programmed to a four digit address then you can read CV17 and 18 and use the address calculator found here to determine the address.If it is a short address then read CV1 and that will be it.

Yes, what Pete says, assuming that you can read CVs 17, 18, and 8 on your programming track. If you can’t, then you might want to reset the decoder. You will probably have to make some sort of assumption as to what decoder is in the unit. I would guess either a Tsunami or a Loksound. Without reading all the manuals, Tony’sTrains website has a list of decoder reset values, http://tonystrains.com/technews/dec_rescue.htm. I can’t say that the list is 100% accurate, but it is a place to start.
They didn’t happen to have all the decoder information on a piece of paper tucked somewhere in the box the unit came in?
I assume, but if you haven’t, start by trying address 03 to select the engine. If that doesn’t work then follow the other’s suggestions to read it from the CV’s.

I found the NCE booklet very helpful in finding such things. If you don’t have one, I think t is available on their site, can look up and print just what you need.

Bruce, why not call Litchfield Station and ask for help including the brand of sound decoder that they installed?

Why bother about what the address might be. Just reprogram in a new one.
You could also reset the decoder to factory defaults ie make the address “3” by placing it on your programming track and programming cv8 to a value of 8. Sometimes it is cv30 to a value of 2. Cycle the power and it should respond to address 3. This works for many but not all decoders. In that case, follow your decoder’s instructions for resetting to factory defaults. Either way, your going to have to directly reset it on the programming track since you don’t know it’s address.
going to guess that Litchfield used an TSU-750 decoder. That is about all that would fit.
Don’t think they used a LocSound.
Most times they have a quick start sheet plus JMRI sheets they send with the unit.
Did they not send you these? If not a call to them would provide the info you are looking for.
Does the unit not respond to the cab number?
Program a new address. That’s how we do(did) it when read back is not possible.

Thanks guys. You have shaken my old memory enough that I can get it running again.
First, I will try to find the Litchfield documentation. Failing that, I will just reprogram another address.
Since it was an undecorated loco, there is no cab number.
