What is the recommended distance between controller ports on a layout?

I have an MRC Prodigy system and I will need a few controller expansion ports. Does anyone know how far apart they should be and where???[?]

Based on the length of your throttle cord, space them so you have good access to your whole layout. My Digitrax ports are placed close to my major switching areas on my layout.

Thanks for the advice. I have seen articles in MR that suggest that you should place controller ports about every six or seven feet, and then i saw some that said what you said, so i was confused.

i actually made a bit of a mistake and in an effort to save a few bucks put mine too far apart, I find myself being pulled and having to stand akwardly, so plan the locations based on comfort, rather than a defined distance. Next weekend project is to add one more and make it more comfortable.
