It looks like we will spend a few days in Prescott this year seeing the sights. Can you people who live in the area give me some hints on RR things to see. I like mines, logging and old steam. I like mountains and bridges. We are willing to travel a few miles if there are good things to see. What are your best suggestions. I would be willing to trade Minnesota info in return.
Verdi Canyon RR in Clarksdale (Verdi Valley). Jerome a mountainside mining town on the way to Clarksdale from Prescott comes to mind.
Williams Grand Canyon RR.

I rode both the Grand Canyon Railway and the Verde Canyon Railroad in September and would recommend them both.

They do not run steam in the winter months. Scenery is not as good as Verde until you get to the Grand Canyon.

Pulled by FP7 diesels.
If you drive on Highway 89 from Prescott to Clarkdale go slow. Those are some sharp curves!
You may have to drive bit and do some map work, but there is Peavine Line for BNSF that runs from Phoenix to Williams Junction 3-5 times a day. Its a heck of a climb and pretty windy. I would imagine if you could catch a trin on that it would be pretty impressive. It runs "sorta parrell " to State Route 89.
Good luck and fhave fun. Prescott is beautiful country. Also, it will be cold too. Maybe 50’s day, high 20’s nite
Stan Cedarleaf has a great g scale RR and he knows many guys who live that way.
look his name up in the phone book there. Guest are welcome
About where is Prescott located in relation to major cities?
It’s about 2 hours drive north of Phoenix. I haven’t been there for several years. It’s a beautiful area. There’s an annual train swap meet there in the fall I think.
Thanks.
I’m guessing that means its quite a distance from Scottsdale, correct?
Well depending where in Scottsdale, 2–2.5 hours drive.
