Looks like some motion detectors I’ve seen that guard private driveways and such. Maybe it sends a notification (usually just a tone) to the property owner.
…This crossing {good quality}, seems weird out in a field where the road seems to end on priviate property…Are those concrete ties…? Is the white box possibly some form of communication to the land owner…?
I was told it is a device that warns the Train Dispatcher when a vehicle is stalled on the crossing. Then the Train Dispatcher warns the Train crew up ahead to be on the look out. Allan.
It is a doorbell, in this instance, a “gate” bell…press the button and it buzzes at a remote location, probably the owner’s home, to alert the land owner that someone wants to use the road.
Note the other post does not have one, but does have a stop sign.
This is a private crossing, the land owner can restrict its use, and the use of the road…read the bottom of the crossing sign.
And note the antenna, not designed for long rang broadcast, I would almost guarantee that is a line of sight set up, might be good for a mile or two if no major hill is in the way, and with the rubber bungee strap holding the rig in place it sure looks like a home made arrangement.
Press the button, and wait till the rancher shows up is my bet.
My brother in law has a ranch in Bandera, with almost the same set up, but the “box” on his gate also includes a two way walkie talkie set up…you want the gate open, you buzz the ranch house, ask, and if he wants you to pass, he can buzz the gate open, it is an electric gate, which also works off of a garage door opener from his Blazer.
