That post sounds about right, hood doors have been known to be changed out with lettering still on them. I seem to recall a CP H16-44 that said “cacanadianan pcificic” or someting like that.

Ive seen the baby-boat “Sama Fe” in kansas city many years ago. out of 8 of us, nobody saw it when it went by. untill 2 weeks later, one guy with us ended up wit a perfect roster slide of it!
thats an ez one…when it was in the shop for some major work…when the put it back together…someone put the long hood that covers the prime mover from another unit on that one…and im sure that befor tooo too long thier is going to be a unit showing up in pics that only has cs on the side… if it didnt go to the paint shop for the new paint sceam… its not uncommon for shop people to put parts back on a locomotive that might not have come off that proticloulor unit…case in point…im sure some of you have all seen the csx engins that have the blue and gray (i dont know what they call that paint sceam) with the conrail blue electical box on the long hood behind the conductors window… and vice-a-versa…

The left side of the unit looks like they tried several times and still didn’t get it right!
Oh, my! They have room for a fourth letter on that hood. If that isn’t a sign of an impending merger, I don’t know what is! [}:)]
Let’s get this unit repainted into the Dark Future paint scheme and put an end to its misery. Maybe we could get it named the Spirit of Spooner [}:)] again!
Look at the hood sections where the double letters connect. The shop put on a differrent middle hood section that has the letters placed farther back on the locomotive. That’s why both sides are messed up.
Way back when, Trains ran a picture of a Nev Haavn S2! I have seen the CSXX unit here(Buffalo). I have noticed that GEs and in the old days, Alcos had easily transposed hood doors. This was usually in response to an Alco and GE malady called flapping door syndrome. But I saw a UNNON PACIFIC SD70M once, so anything is possible.[%-)]
I once saw a N&W auto rack with the road name panels switched to read NORFOLK WEST & ERN.
I also saw CB&Q boxcar which read from the left edge of the car, gton. This was the only lettering on the car. the other end was blank.Appearently when the car was rebuilt the Burlin was on a different panel, and the last half of the road name was replaced as the left panel on a different car.
I saw the CSXX also this summer, come through here (Berea, OH) behind an SD70ACe on a westbound coal drag! I kept looking at my tape that I filmed it on, and was wondering what that was! If it was another C or just an illusion. So I looked it up, and whala, here we are now!!
