Once again I don’t have pics to start with,( there here now) this weekend has included tearing out a curve, (I done some shabby work on 5 or 6 years ago)[V], replacing the track and re-adjusting the bench work underneath. Not a real big job but it required removal of all the scenery in one corner of my RR thus making the clean up job a necessity!!. The fact is it may never be replaced because I plan to start a new one soon…Yea, October I think it was??? So, what else is new with the life of a Model Railroader?? I have taken time to give my train room a good cleaning!! Other than that it’s bussiness as usual replacing couplers ( last night some gondolas got SP lettering)and waiting to see what goes wrong next. Standby[:D]
These files may be a little big!!
These are before and after, haven’t decided if I’ll rebuild here or not. I have planned to build another RR in my house in one of the small bedrooms so I may abandon this one, I am going to keep running trains here at least till I get the other one operational.
Finally hooking up my DCC system. I completed my mailine late last spring but since I am usually too busy in the summer to spend time on my model railroad, I am just now ready to start running. I have been testing my track with an old MRC power pack running a single loco at a time but now I am ready to take the plunge. I have a basic Atlas DCC system with a CVP wireless throttle. I am also going to attach the MRC automatic reversing module on my reverse loops. I’ll also need to clean the track (ugh!!!). If all goes well, I’ll actually be running trains by next week.
family stuff is going to wipe out this weekend . still working on the mdc 2-6-0 , have figured out that double sided tape should work for mounting the motor , but i still have some binding in the mechanism . sigh
edit: i did a partial disassembly and i think i know where the binding is now . i might get a chance work on it sunday
Finishing my Revell NYC Hudson model. Want to start on the Big Boy next. (anybody know where to get Anthrocite Grey paint?) Might start laying wood for my elevation on the new mainline.( I need a digital camera!!!)
My plans for the weekend are putting new Kadee couplers on some of my new rolling stock, and then putting together & painting a whole bunch of the Walthers plastic track bumpers.
I was going to repair the buckled track on my layout. I got the bad section cut out and all of the ballast scraped away then I discovered I only had one connector. Sooo, it looks like the loop is down for a week until I get over to Davis Trains and pick up some more.
There are plenty of other things to keep me busy. Maybe tomorrow I will pick a car or to to weather.
I’m replacing the couplers and coupler boxes on an Atlas PressureAide covered hopper.
IMHO Atlas goofed these cars up somehow. The offset coupler boxes and really tall truck bolsters are clues. I don’t have any scale drawings to support this. They must have made these changes to get the car height correct? Anybody else ever noticed this?
Looks like its going to work out pretty well, I’ll post some pictures sunday after I finish up.
I’ll probably get back to detailing the inside of my roundhouse, but 'Tis the Season for open houses, too. I went to the Treasure Coast Model Railroad Club in Florida on Friday, and I’ll try the Massachusetts Tour de Chooch on Sunday. Plus, I found a no-longer-available on E-bay and I’ll have to keep watch on that.
Starting my four-track, six loop helix construction.
Actually, I started it yesterday, by cutting all the curves and straight sections. The main suspension frame is assembled and ready to be raised into place against the ceiling. Sunday will hopefully see that installed, along with a loop or two of subroadbed added.
Working on lighting. Got this idea from an earlier post (http://www.trains.com/community/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=50487) from hminky. Today I hope to finish painting that bottom half of the wall and put up a temp platform next to workbench to run a train on for now. Electrician, my son-in-law, comes week before Xmas to put in final wiring. Then I have two weeks off and hope to start on benchwork.
Hey…another steelie fan!!! What are you building your BOF out of ? I’m doing the same thing…still looking for some type of sheet metal for the outside of the BOF in HO scale. The only thing that I’ve found for sheet metal ,is ribbon. Good luck on you build .

Making HO scale steel by the ton!!!
I’m working on an ongoing project…the most tedious part of MR, but with the greatest payout! I’m painting rails and tie plates, and the difference in before and after is fantastic! I’m using Joe F’s method with the OO brush!
Here is one of my spur of the moment jobs, I painted and letterd this hopper for SP, there are of course lots of little details missing but I do this stuff mostly for myself, it’ll go quite well with the other 3 or 4 I already have.
Well, I don’t have any pictures of the completed (or partially completed) project yet, but here’s the plan:
The concept is to attach a suspension frame made of 3/4" plywood to the ceiling above, and suspend the actual helix below on threaded rods. This will provide easy adjustment of grades by simply turning turning nuts on the rods to raise or lower the 1/2" plywood subroadbed. Cork will be glued to the plywood, and track attached to that.
I got the main suspension framework mostly installed over the weekend. When I have some photos on the web, I’ll post them in a thread here.
