What kind of locomotive is this. http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=572678
I think it’s a Baldwin, that was re-engined with an EMD prime mover(?)
At first I thought it may have been an ALCo, but it had the wrong trucks.
That is Western Maryland’s first GP9, originally #25.
It appears to be an EMD GP9 with a chopped short hood.
It’s a WM GP9 with an in-house chopped short hood.

I think “ugly” just about sums it up.
I’m going with ugly as well.
+2 on the aesthetic aspect but it’s a different configuration which is neat in its own right.
I’d run it.
Just cuz she’s ugly don’t mean she ain’t fun.

OK Where are all these abandoned locomotives? are they in peoples back yards ? why are they abandoned, are they not worth even the scrap value? there must be tons of these locos rusting all over the U.S., can you just leave your old-out-of date locomotives any where you want?
They may be ugly but I would go find them just because the first one is still in Chessie paint.
It’s a shame to see a piece of WM equipment in such sad shape, even abandoned. The WM always took good care of its equipment.
OK, I’m with you, ugly. Thats for sure.
I’d love to have an old locomotive in my back yard. I’d keep the paint looking nice though!
