I guess I’d have to say that I’m a moderate railroader because I mostly reserve it for the winter or when there’s not much else to do. Sometimes I find myself thinking about things I could change or improve on my locos or layout when I’m having “one of those days” at work. I also have to say that out of several other hobbies I have, model railroading is one of my favorites.
Like Tracklayer, I guess I’m moderate. I’m an over the raod trucker and what time I have at home doesn’t leave much for modeling. I belong to a club but the meetings are on Thursday nights (I’m on the road the) and Saturday mornings ( i’m usually just getting home then or later) so even club activities are basically out for me.Ken
Absolutely addicted and hard core, althought I spend more time on the web or reading than actually modeling. I am actively working on designing a layout for the basement.
Still looking for that “12 step plan”, but not to hard!! [;)]
I assume “semi” is what you meant–I’m not quite fully hardcore (I have a couple of other hobbies not involving trains) but between the layout and my prototype research (euphemism for “gee let’s go look at the trains!”) I’m definitely on a downward spiral into total foamerhood.
Thanks for pointing out my mis-spelling of “semi” Jetrock. I’ll go back in and correct it. Let this be a lesson to the rest of you guys as to what happens when you just throw a poll together… ([:p])
I would say Moderate, as I have too many outside things to do in Summer with 4 acres and a garden etc, plus 4 grwon children to help from time to time at theri homes, you know, electrical, gardening, plumbing, electronics, etc. Late Fall, all Winter, and early Spring is TRAIN TIME heavily.
I voted semi-hardcore. No matter what store I’m in, I’m always looking for something I can use on my train. When I’m out driving around I always observe how things look so I can apply them to my layout. I’ve really been noticing trees and rock formations lately.
Most people I know don’t get it, but I could care less what they think.
I know the feeling loathar. I carry a camera around with me just in case I come across something out there in nature that catches my eye, and if I’ve got a buddy or girlfriend with me, they’ll say - Mark, you are one weird guy. My reply to them is - no, actually I’m a model railroader!. Need I say more… [:D].
With the minimal amount of time I have to actually work on the layout,I suppose I’m moderate, to the world at large I’m probably OTT (over the top) visiting hobby shops on trips, shooting empty track etc. I don’t care - I like trains and modelling them. J.R.
