Hello all. A friend of mine that’s into HO recently bought an IHC heavy mountain from our local hobby shop for about a hundred dollars. He’s never heard of this brand, yet I found a number of items on ebay made by them. Can someone out there tell me what the quality of their locos are ?. Thanks. Tracklayer
From what I’ve been told, their steamers are good. Avoid the diesels at all costs, they’re junk.
I have seen dozens of their steam locomotives at the club and have yet to see their diesels EXCEPT a rebuilt C415.
The Steamers that IHC have are a good starting point for detailing projects! They are also a good running steamengine for a cheap price. Kevin
I have been running several IHC steamers for several years. I bought them to get a inexpensive jump start on my steam fleet. They are not the most detailed, but they are good runners. Mine are al converted to DCC, and they work just fine.
I have approximately 10 IHC steam engines of various wheel configurations and years of manufacture, and have had no problems with any of them. They all have can motors and I have been able to install decoders with little trouble other than getting to the headlight wiring on some of them.
The new IHC 2-10-2 is a lot better than previous IHC models because it is heavier and has more detail. The tender is roomy enough for a Tsunami sound decoder, and it is their first “DCC ready” engine.
I have seen only one IHC diesel engine, and would not want any of them because it seemed to be very poorly made.
