WHAT LINE IS THIS? -- Milton, West Virginia

WHAT LINE IS THIS?

About 15-20 miles east of Huntington, WV, lies the town of Milton WV, just south of Interstate-64.

A couple of times I’ve visited the factory and gift shop of a firm called Blenko, which makes modern art glass that I can actually afford. Milton is a very small town and the routes out to Blenko place the glassworks a mile or so west and south of the town.

This past time I was, um, indisposed and wouldn’t you know it? A train came blasting through on the tracks that are just to the west of the access road to Blenko. I was fit to be tied! Nor could I find any identifying marks on the (well-maintained and double- or triple-tracked) main or the nearby concrete underpass that takes country traffic to the west, beneath the tracks.

Now, it seems to me that the train was probably either CSX or NS, since ex-C&O and ex-N&W both had main lines running from Tidewater Virginia, thru WV, crossing the Ohio River and on to Cincy. But I have been making too many unwarranted assumptions lately so will just confess ignorance.

Can anyone give me a tip, a map or an imbed about this? I have been waiting two months for my U.S. railways in 1980 map, and after I finally get it from Minnesota I hope I won’t need to waste y’alls time over basics like this.

Please let me know, Al

That is a CSX line, formerly part of the C&O Virginia to Chicago mainline, used by Amtrak’s Cardinal.

Thank you so much. Your prowess is amazing!
