What new loco would you like to see?

Everyone has a “wish list”.

So…What new loco would you like to see?

Please mention the scale and any features that you would concider a plus.

Me, I’d like to see the N scale Bachmann Spectrum Decapod that was promised.

Barring that, any good steam in N scale, especially good running (and pulling) small steam, would be most welcome.

What about you guys?

In HO, I would have said an quality FP-45 in plastic (but Athearn appears to be taking care of that). I think my next request would be a U30CG in plastic. I don’t suspect something like that would sell very well, but who knows.

I would really love to see a quality Big Boy or F7 in plastic…oh…wait…

In HO, I would like a well detailed Atlantic steam passenger engine. With DCC and sound of course.

I would be happy if Athearn/MDC/Roundhouse would re-release their old line of HOn3 steamers. I found one on ebay, but I stil could use a couple of more for kitbashing projects.

I’d like to see a RTR Reading P7 Atlantic in HO scale. I think there was an old Mantua kit but that means finding one and then building it - I’m not sure my skills are up to the task. There’s also a custom builder who has one on his roster but you pay for that kind of workmanship. Something moderately priced would certainly be nice.

These were beautiful, high-speed locos that burned anthracite in a wide firebox and could exceed 100mph - that is just awesome in steam.

I want to see an HO F40PH- I know kato made one a few years ago, and I love the thing, but it only came in two paint schemes…And i’m not holding my breath for a new run anytime soon…If Atlas produces one they’d probably do every scheme the F40PH was ever painted in…And it would have better sound than my digitrax F40PH sound decoder…

In HO, I’d like to see an affordable (Atlas, Kato, Genesis,… i.e. not brass) Krauss-Maffei diesel hydraulic that the D&RGW and SP used. To my knowledge, those haven’t been mass-produced by any major manufacturer, except maybe one (Rivarossi?) many moons ago. They would make a very distinctive addition to any locomotive roster layout.

how about SD40-2s both Hi-hood and low-hood in HO and N. They where once the most common locomotive in the US and Canada. But in the hobby the only SD40-2s are the BLIs, some old Katos, the new Katos(N scale only), some athearns based on the BB tooling. Bachman did some, but lets get Some Kato ones or maybe Atlas.

A re-release of the MDC boxcab diesel. With separate grab irons and a quieter drive.

CPR 2-10-4 Selkirk, but I am not losing sleep over it, nor am I turning blue. All in good time.

More high end sound equipped small steamers such as a 2-6-0 or 4-6-0. I know Roundhouse has come out with a 4-4-0 but it was sorely lacking in detail and carries a hefty price tag for what seems like a mid ranged loco.

I agree… N scale SD40-2’s … in Conrail & also, C39-8’s in Conrail as well. Hopefully, Atlas will make 'em.

This is my wish list in HO Scale. M3 or M4 DM&IR Yellowstone and B&O EM1. NP Coal version/ SP&S oil version Z8 4-6-6-4 and to top it off, SP&S A3 Oil version and NP A4 and A5 4-8-4’s coal versions…

PRR Q2 4-4-6-4 and S2 Turbine 6-8-6.

Well, you asked!

In no particular order, all in regularly stocked AFFORDABLE plastic:

NYC L-1 class 4-8-2

NYC H-5 class 2-8-2

NYC H-10 class 2-8-2

NYC G-16 class 2-8-0

NYC K-3 or K-11 class 4-6-2

NKP R class 4-6-0

NKP G-3 class 2-8-0

NKP L-1 class 4-6-4

IC 1400-1599 series 2-8-2

IC 2100 series 2-8-2

IC 2095 series 4-6-2

IC 7000 series 2-8-4

PRR H-10 class 2-8-0

C&NW R-3 class 4-6-0

C&IM A-1 class 4-4-0

Wabash I-3 class 2-8-0

Wabash F-4 class 2-6-0

And some Canadian prototype steam in PLASTIC for our frozen buddies north of the border!

[#ditto] N scale SD40-2s for NS and CSX, and some C39-8s for NS. Both with working ditch lights. Why aren’t there very many SD40-2s? Aren’t they a widely used prototype loco?

I would like to see a broader range of roadnames for plastic steam engine models. Broadway Limited has a great set of steam engine models but only for a handful of roadnames: UP, PRR, ATSF, NYC. While technically I could modify one of these models for my roads (CB&Q, NP), I’d rather buy one.

I have 2 on my wish list.

1.A phase 3 GP35.For those who dont know the difference. It has the “thin” frame like a gp38.

  1. Alco 430 with Hi ad trucks or AAR trucks.

Yes,I know I’m dreaming.

My vote would be for:

High Hood Alco switchers with sound in HO

SW 1001 CR, CSX, NS, Reading to name a few class 1’s who own (ed) these with sound. These are not the same as the SW 1000.

SW 1500 with sound, I know PCM has announced these for sometime in the future.

New Haven FL9 and EP5 “Jet” in HO plastic.

HO C&O J3a “Greenbriar” 4-8-4

HO Pere Marquette N1a Berkshire 2-8-4, like 1225 and 1223, the last remaining PM Berks.

Another run of HO SD80MACs by Kato, more Conrail and NS numbers along with CSX YN3. All with working DCC controlled marker lights.

HO SD40-2s with nose headlights for L&N/Family Lines/CSX.

HO SD40-2s with ditch lights

HO “Canadian” SD40-2s with class lights, cab mounted bells, nose headlights and ditch lights, and the single bulb rear headlight.

HO Amtrak P42s with working ditch lights (for cripe’s sake, Athearn!)

More HO diesels availible with ditch lights.
