What railroad does B L & C stand for?

Does anyone know what railroad this stands for. The only thing I know about it is that it may have been operating in New Hampshire in the1880’s.
Thank you
emmar

What do you bet Nanaimo finds the answer before I do?

LOL !
I tried here 30 minutes ago.

Couldn’t find it.

I looked in a couple of references, and couldn’t find any possibilities, New Hampshire or otherwise.

I’m wondering whether it’s some small “lumber and coal” outfit, or something like that.

Emma, do you have any other clues about those initials you can give us? Where’d you see them?

If the “&” were to the left by one letter, it could’ve been the Boston and Lake Charles… just a SWAG here. Not based on any evidence.

Andrew is pretty good with those ficticious RRs, ask him…

While we are on the SWAG train lets try “Boston, Lexington and Concord” The nick name woudl be " The Minuteman Route. Sounds good to me:

I am actually asking about this on the behalf of KBryan on trainweb who posted this on trainweb.
I had a ggg grandfather that worked his way up to engineer in NH in the 1880’s. He was killed in a wreck in 1886. The article does not specify what the line was called (“Northern” is as close as they get). I was given a lantern that has engraved on it “B L & C RR”. Can anyone point me in the right direction as to where I might find what line that might have been? I would be very grateful!

A clue would be if you could find out where the accident was,or where your ggg grandfather lived or is buried. That might give the general area.

I have posted the information in this topic on the trainweb forum as well as all of your suggestions for things that might help identify this railroad. KBryan has not responded to the posts yet, but thank you for your help.

The Northern Railroad is on this map. It looks like it starts in Concord and ends in White River Junction.

I was going through older threads and ran across this one. It caught my eye since it mentions the Northern Railroad which did run from Concord to White River Junction (one of my favorite rail hangouts). I would just like to add a little more info to it. The Northern was built in 1845 to 1847. It was leased to the Boston & Lowellfrom 1884 to 1887 and then it became part of the Boston & Maine system in 1888. So the engineer mentioned above would have worked on the Northern line of the Boston & Lowell. Perhaps the b and the l part could be Boston and Lowell. I can’t find anything that refers to any line called the Boston, Lowell & Csomething. Hope this fills in another piece of the puzzle.

Broken, Lost & Crumbling would be my guess.

My bet would be Boston, Lowell & Concord [New Hampshire] – but that’s just a guess.

Jamie, that was my thought too, but have not run across that name anywhere. Sounds good, tough!

No no no… it’s Bacon Limburger and Corned Beef! [:D]

Not in any of my pre 1901 Railroad Guides; June 1870 is the oldest. Looked in both current name and ‘railroads with changed name’ lists.

Sorry,
