What Railroad is HLCX?

I got caught at a grade crossing on the way home tonight, and saw an engine I have never seen before. This was on the old B&O line running into Philadelphia (now CSX). The lead engine was what I thought to be solid marroon in color with only HLCX in gold or yellow on its side. The engine had a very short hood to the front, and almost looked new. It was very clean and shined in the little light available. I also noticed the horn was very different from what I am used to on this line. (at least it was very different that close.) I did not see any other markings or an engine number. The engine that followed it was an everyday CSX in grey/blue with a mixed freight behind. Any ideas what this might be?

HLCX is a leasing company that leases locomotives to railroads. Unless you have a engine # it will be hard to identify the unit without further details.

Helm Leasing … Here in Ohio, the regional railroads lease from them.

Grayson and Buckeye,

Many thanks.

Ken

You’ll also see them in blue or in the original owner’s colors with the original lettering painted over and Helm lettering stenciled in…
