I model 1999-2004 Conrail, Norfolk Southern, and Reading & Northern with my fictional Allentown Scranton & Northern. [:)]
After many years of searching. I have finally settled on a definitive answer. Late 1960s Great Northern, 1970s Burlington Northern, (So I can run Cascade Green or Big Sky Blue depending on my mood) and my freelanced Tyco Valley and Chattanooga. (I have to do something with those old Tyco Chattanooga Choo Choo Locos from my early days) I also have a modest collection of Union Pacific Steam. I think I will repaint what I can into GN, and let the rest collect dust.

You didnt specify if freelances or prototype so…
The Borracho Railroad, serving the Borracho Brewery and the town of Borracho Springs in the remote desert southwest. Set in the period between 1947 and 1957. Large scale 1/20.3 narrow guage indoor layout. Roster consists of about 6 small Baldwin and Porter 0-4-0 steam locos and about 6 gas/mechanical critters.
Both freelance and prototype plus prototype-freelance (like the AS&N)
BNSF and Amtrak in Oklahoma[:D][:D]
UP, SP, ATSF, D&RGW, WP, CB&Q, and CNW in the 1940s and 50s. Big Steam, Classic Diesels, and Turbines! [:D]
The fictional Allegheny, Mercer, and Lake Erie running from North Bessemer to Wesleyville, PA (just east of Erie) in September-October 1998. Runs iron ore, auto parts, and intermodal south and automobiles, coal, and intermodal north. Or at least it runs all that on paper, considering all that exists so far is a drawing of a limestone loading facility on kraft paper.
August 8 1980. My Clinch Valley interchanges with
L&N and Southern in Knoxville, N&W at Richlands, Logan Southern at Logan, Chessie (C&O), V&O and DT&I at Huntington.
Since all are staging, there is plenty of foreign power bringing trains on and off the layout.
Conrail in West Va.
I model the great Range Road a.k.a Great Dividing Range Mining & Manufacturing Company (GDRM&MCo) in the 1960’s because some of their late steam like the monstorus 2-10-2s and 2-10-4s and the high speed, high horsepower 2-10-6s are still in operation. The other RR’s that interchange with the GDRM&MCo are Quality Rail a.k.a Quality Co., a stuck up RR like Union Pacific, and LTV Queensland, a class 2 steel mining RR with a large fleet of the Lengendary Steamers, the ALCo PA/PBs. Intermodal, Iron Ore, Auto Parts and time sensitive Merchandise are all a big part of each RR’s revenue. The layout should be complete by 2006.
My layout is gonna be Boston to LA, So I have Santa fe, bn, csx, guilford (MEC,B&M), Amtrak , MBTA and occasional cameos by by a UP SD40-2[:P]
Primarily ATSF and Southern Pacific. A little D&RGW, NP, WP, and UP back in the transition era.
The Canadian PacificD&H & SOO in the US Northeast with a dash of the MEC/B&M for an interchange.
Pretty much Protolanced here.
I’m still working on another interchange to include Conrail/UP & or whatever I can fit in.
Gordon
ATSF, SP, UP, and BN in the transition era. No specific towns just the mountainous region of the western United States.
Conrail Lowgrade from Dubois to East Brady, PA in the ‘75 to ‘85 time period. The layout is in a 75’ by 25’ basement and has 6 active shortlines which feed the Lowgrade line (B&LE, Falls Creek RR, B&P, P&S, LEF&C and the Sligo & Rimersburg railroad). The layout is a historical representation of the real thing and I used the Contrail ZTS track charts (1984) to layout all of the towns along the route.
BOB H Clarion, PA
I model my Eastern Railroad after Pennsyslvania RR between Philadelphia and New York City, in the 1950’s. Also I use Train Dispatcher, between these two city. If i am not run my trains, I am on my computer.
The trains of Stockton, California in the 1960s and 1970s. Lots of different paint went through that town.
CB&Q and CRI&P in 1940’s to 1950’s Iowa.
Right now I model Wisconsin and southern Rolling stock in a fictional setting, just someplace in WIsconsin. My Next layout will be based as prototypicaly as possible on the Wisconsin and southern’s Reedsburg Sub.
Noah
CB&Q in the late 1960’s primarily.
Also interchanges, most live and a couple passive, with TP&W/ATSF, Rock Island, CNW, IC, PC, and maybe Milwaukee Road.
I will also model a freelance urban switching line, name and color scheme yet to be decided, possibly the Merchant’s Interlink RR or some such.
