Certainly the Conrail logo…sigh…I miss the Big Blue.
I do too but I would have to give it to the sleeping kitten. Chessie System logo will always stand out.
Railbox is still around. In addition to ones with the traditional RBOX reporting marks, there are ones with CNA and SP too. Railgons still have GONX and some have CSXT reporting marks as well.
When I went down by the old Pigs Eye Yard a few years ago, I remember a big cut of the Railboxes. They are still kicking.
Course, what symbol sticks out? The angled rectangle of the Milwaukee logo. I once squeezed one of these onto the set of our high school musical many years ago.
The Amtrak pointless arrow[:D]

Chessie, the cat sillowette creating the “C” for Chessie on teh orange and yellow paint
B&O logo. the Capitol dome, just look at the eligance of the logo on a freshly painted E or on the streamlined P7 pacifics. That was classy.
I’m with thg on this;but I would have to go further back into the history.
It would be the ‘old’ C & O,with the “Chessie” and the slogan “sleeps like a kitten”
The B & O Capitol Dome was good, with the “Capitol Route”[:)]
I like the big yellow Erie diamond on a black Berk or Pacific tender. It looks good with wings on a diesel, too.
oh yea… another one that poped in my mind…the SP golden pig service on the TOFC trailers… the pic of a pig with a smile and whereing an engineers hat…got a nice pic of one on a passing train back when i was about 14… shocked the hell out of me it came out clear being the train was moving at about 45…and i was about only 20 feet from it…
csx engineer
I don’t see anyone standing up for the wonderful D&RGW and their “Route Through the Rockies” symbol, so I guess I will. Plus I am still a fan of the old UP “Overland Route” shield symbol

MY favorite symbol, which is no virtually gone CP rail’s Script wrirng on the side of Freight cars and locomotives.
definitely the Chessie cat logo and the Conrail “can opener”
How about the Great Northern?
I also liked the lettering on Reading hopper cars. The Reading & Northern coppied the look.

For Conrail,I always heard that was “a broken wheel,on a broken rail”.
I’ve got to vote for the big gold “SR” & “The Southern Serves The South” herald…
Drgw-- Mainline Thru The Rockies, Royal Gorge Route etc…
I would say the chessie kitten logo,SBD ‘‘Z’’ logo ( the red yellow with white lettering) FURX,GCFX (color) CN zebra, CP’s one light
that’s all I think
kevin
My choices would have to be Chessie, Mopac eagle and buzzsaw, and UP wings.
