What ratio of Indian Ink & Water for Bricks & Mortar Wash?

Hi All, Perhaps I haven’t got the search feature right yet?! There was a post (pre latest forum upgrade!) talking about using plaster for mortar wetting it with a spary and then applying a wash of Indian ink to take away the whiteness of the plaster and age the brick. Someone mentioned 2 drops to x amount of water, anybody have an idea on the ratio?Regards,Nige.

That might have been me. Put about a half-inch of water in a yogurt cup, and add a couple of drops of India Ink. The Ink is very concentrated. You’ll get a gray look from the mortar. If it’s not dark enough, give it another application.

The whole idea of washes is to add only a little bit at a time. Don’t try to nail it on one pass. Remember, you can always add more, but you can’t take any away if you get it too dark.
