What season do you model?

I model the summer. I hate cold weather. [censored]

I model fall in the beautiful upper peninsula of Michigan. A real nice mixture of deciduous and conifer trees.

Right now I model the eternal plywood desert - same all seasons.

When I get around to scenery it will likely be mid-summer.

I’ve always wanted to model winter with a real snow fall. The problem is I can’t figure out how to make real snow, unless I built my railroad inside a freezer. If anyone has any suggestions, I’d love to hear them. Seriously.

An overcast day in late autumn.

Real snow probably wouldn’t be a good idea. Real snowflakes can be 1/2"-3/4" across, that would be several feet across in HO. Be hard to make realistic snow drifts etc. I would think.

August 8, 1980. Significant for me - the day my railroad career ended.

I have all four. (or will have when I finish).
I started out with summer. Someone gave me a lot of fall trees and I began thinking. (Always dangerous for a mrr person). When I put my Christmas tree layout on a frame and connected it to the main layout, I had winter. Plans call for a back drop to seal the winter section from the summer, that blends into the fall. The fall ends just where the backdrop for the winer begins. The opposit side of the winter will be spring. Oh well you have to be there to understand it. It is not proto. but it’s mine.

Good point, wjstix. I hadn’t thought of that.

Late Spring early Summer, perfect time of the year.

summer/spring

I would like to model mid-October in the central and southern Appalachians - I’ve never seen the central and southern Appalachians in mid-October but I have seen some photos and I think that that is where I would like to go. Unfortunately I am not sure I will go there. I haven’t seen very many layouts with fall scenes that impressed me that much - but then that is the challenge; I can do it right!!!

I model August 20, 1973. I model summer because I like it hot. Being from California, I am used to 90 - 100 degree summers. Summer is the time to go outdoors and have fun. I like the desert too. Man, I must be nuts.

I designed a layout for a friend based on the Missouri Pacific in downtown Austin, Texas in the 1950s. I went through the Sanborn’s insurance maps for the time and place and discovered that one of the on-line businesses was AusTex Mexican Foods. So I assume that on that layout, the SEASON modeled is CHILI POWDER.

That was what you were asking, right?
