Hi was wondering if anyone know what subdivison that the IC/CN railroad uses that runs from New orleans to Jackson ms and north (i mean the line that amtrak uses) because I would like to railfan that area thanks chris and sorry for the grammer and spelling errors for the people Who think there all that.
Shep: The following link is a line map of the IC RR (not sure of the date, but surely it is pre merger.
I have no clue as to the sub division names within the CN Structure since I moved from Memphis area about 12 years ago. In the interim there have been a lot of changes as to segment ownership ( or leaseee’s to specific segments of former IC lines. ( ie: The Eas-West Line through Jackson Ms (now called the Meridian Speedway (?) in R writings (KCS/NS/IC/CN (?)
Also: If you are planning a motor trip to rail Fan the IC/CN lines. Check with the State Highway Departments for their Official State Issue Road Maps. Louisiana, Mississippi, Arkansas and Tennessee, I know have accurate maps of rail lines along with their highway net on their maps. So you can plan your trip. Harrison Yard (nee: Johnston Yard at Memphis)is a sprawling facility, and is accessible in some parts by local streets. Be aware that the surrounding neighborhoods are not a good place to stop, and try and rail fan in!
Try and get some local feed back about where to railfan in the larger cities on the railroad. They can be found in some pretty tough neighborhoods for the uniniatiated.
The IC (CN) line from New Orleans, LA to Jackson, MS is the McComb Subdivision.
MC Comb, Ms. was up until 1987 the IC RR’s Shops and its biggest employer. The Community has built a Museum to the Shops and at the location of the current AMTRAK Station (nee: ICRR Station) they have an exhibit which includes an ICRR ‘Mountain-type’ Steam Locomotive #2542.(Paducah Built 1942) An all aluminum Refrigerator Car (#51000). An IC wide vision Caboose and they also have the Shops Wrecker Crane ( an Indusrial Brownhoist) and flat car.
