I am trying to model the SP daylight 4449’s auxillary tender. It appears to be a square in daylight colors the same height as the daylight’s oil tender. What tender or auxillary tender could I use to paint up an accurately sized and shaped model? Any ideas? Thanks in advance folks!
What your referring to is an axillary water tender shown in the pictures other then the noticeable difference in the striping and the “hump” at the front of the tender on a coal burner this would have been the cola bunker but I believe 449 is an oil burner so you got me what they call that, there doesn’t appear to be a lot of other differences. Although I am sure there are but just not obvious in this pic. I think you may have a bit of kit bashing ahead of you and a good place to start is with another tender from the manufacture of your loco.
The auxillary tender for the 4449 is a modified AC12 tender from a Cab Forward. The hard part is to make it rounded off like the 4449 tender since they were almost square. Doyle and his crew did a fine job of the modification which would be fairly hard to do in HO size. By the way, the real tender is a few inches wider than the GS4 tender if you look closely.

Maybe you could try starting with the Bachmann / Spectrum auxiliary N&W water tender?? Correct general shape anyway…
