What the heck is "Non matching quote blocks in post" ?...

I don’t know about you guys, but I am so sick of spending twenty minutes or more replying to a topic only to get NON MATCHING QUOTE BLOCK IN POST… And no matter what I do I can’t get it to be accepted. Is there a trick to it or what?..

I hate this new format!.

It means you’re missing one of the [ quote ] brackets somewhere in your reply. If you hit the quote button to reply, they should all be imported into your response. If you’re cutting and pasting trying to reply, one mistake and you’re hosed…I simply hit the quote button on your post and here it is, in my response.

If you start typing your response before the last [ quote ] bracket, I think that will also cause that error…

Tracklayer,

Rest assured you are NOT the only one this happens to.

Given that all your bracketed quotes and /quotes are in the correct place(s), your other option is to replace the initial user name bracketed quote (i.e. “quote user=…”) for just a plain bracketed quote. I’m not entirely sure yet but I think it’s the user names that have symbols in them that tend to be the culprits. No matter what you change, you still get that annoying message.

Anyway, the above solution has always worked for me.

Tom

Ive learned that sometimes I find myself typing a reply inside the quote area “Above” the bottom Qoute box.

I pretty much stopped quoting and if I chose to, I carefully proofread the stupid quote area to make sure that it is identical to the orginal.

I spent time on other forums related to gaming over the years and never had that trouble. This is the only forum I ever ran into this issue on the whole wide internet.

Thanks for the input guys, but it does this to me as if its’ trying to tell me I’ve either gone off topic, or that I’m not being nice about something I’ve said in my reply. At least that’s the way it appears to me…

Maybe Bergie will see this and can explain what the problem is.

Tracklayer,

Don’t read so much into it. If your quote is nested between a bracketed quote and /quote, you won’t get the “Non matching quote blocks in post” message and your response will post correctly. (That’s the first thing you should always check to make sure it’s right.)

However, if your bracketed quotes are in their correct places and you STILL get that error message, eliminating the intial user name bracketed quote for a plain quote will take care of the problem. I’ve found that it only seems to happen on certain user names - which says to me that it’s some sort of glitch with the new forum software.

Try it, it works…

Tom

It’s a software glitch. I have experienced it numerous times and for no good reason. I know what to look for, and I know how to find such errors, but the software insists that I have not used the correct quote blocks. Nonsense. So, I highlite and copy my response, go back one page, and reply by pasting the text into a reply textbox, as opposed to hitting the “reply with quote” button once again. That way, at least I don’t lose my investment of typing time.

Tracklayer,

If I click on the quote button above your post, I get the following screen:

The initial bracketed quote shows that it’s from you and it will be posted as followed:

The quoted text MUST be nested between those two brackets in order for it to post correctly. If you forget one or the other, you’ll get that annoying “Non matching quote blocks in post” message.

I have run into times where - even though everything has the correct “syntax” - the forum software still gives me that “Non matching quote…” message. If, for instance, I got that message trying to post your above quote, all I would need to do is to substitute the “quote user=‘Tracklayer’” inside the brackets for the word “quote”.

Yes, you lose the Tracklayer wrote: reference, but your message posts.

Tom

Thank you again guys for going to all the trouble to explain. There for a while I thought maybe the server had it in for me…

Tracklayer

It is you. We took a vote and decided to have Bergie mess you up.

Heh.

Actually, I get that error whenever I try to edit a quote. I usually try to cut out all but the latest message to save server space and load times, but noooOOOOO, the server doesn’t like that.

Fine.

When I quote, I don’t touch it and it seems to work ok from there.

I have found that if there is an ampersand (&) in the username of the member you’re quoting, it will screw up every time! I remove the & and replace it with ‘and’, then the function works perfectly.

I was having a rash of these problems awhile back and I sent Bergie an email explaining the problem - I was unable to send him an email with the error posted but he did send back some instructions for just what a quote should look like. I haven’t had the problem in awhile now but I did observe that the place I was most likely to encounter it - this ‘invalid quotes’ - was when the quoted poster had some sort of special character in his moniker. Sometimes but not always!!!

yeah don’t take it personal , it happens to me too

Jeffrey,

Thanks for collaborating that fact. That’s what I was noticing, too. [:)] I’ll try your method next time.

Tom

It can also happen when there are different fonts, font sizes, colors, italilcs, and especially bullet lists included in the text being quoted.
