What the heck is this? GN Fire Prevention Car?

I got this guy this morning on ePay, and think I did ok. Gave $19.95 for it. I saw a lot of 2 end yesterday of the same car at $68.77.

What is it, ( the prototype ) and how do I use it? Was it a revenue car, or a special car? I’ve never seen one before a few days ago.

no clue, but it shure does look cool[^]

It would be a training car, to train railway employees and/or others in fire prevention. I’ve seen photos somewhere of prototypes.

This is the GN ‘fire training car’ - It survived the BN merger and was repainted in Cascade Green with the same flames - a neat looking car. I suspect it was scrapped years ago.

I believe it’s pictured in “Great Northern Color Guide to Freight and Passenger Equipment”
by David H. Hickcox - Morning Sun Books, Inc., 1995. May be in some other books too.

Great Northern Ry. Historical Society might be able to help with more information too.

I’ve looked all over the web for pics of the prototype, to no avail. The Goat web site does mention the model, but I found nothing on the prototype.

Looking forward to getting this one on my layout. I guess I’ll park the rascal on a siding near the yard for training!

Thanks for the info guys!

Make a museum and put her their [;)]

I have a photo of it in it’s BN green paint, but it is in slide format, and none of my slides have been transfered to other media. Maybe it’s time to get on it. The slides are more than 25 years old. I hope they held up.
