What tools do you keep in your Toolbox?

What tools do you guys keep in your toolbox. I just recently finished cleaning the layout space and found 90% of the missing tools. Right now in my toolbox i have Rail Nippers, a pair of Bent Needle nose, Very very handy things. a tack hammer, Pin Vise, Dremel and assorted dremel bits and a Cordless 18 volt Ryobi Dril and bits for that. and a couple Soldering irons. Am i missing anything? And i also thought this topic might help some of the poeple just getting started in Model Railroading.

My tools seem to jump out of the tool box and make their way around the workbench. Once the layout gets going, they’ll be even harder to find. [:I]

My dremel, drill, and electric screw driver have their own boxes. My track laying tools have their own tool box, as do my painting tools.

In addition to the pen vise, rail cutters, and needle nose plyer. My tool box gets a pair of wire cutters (for piano wire), two other needle nose plyers of different sizes and teeth. Two different size vice grips. Full size hammer & countersink. 3 regular open end wrenches 1/4"-3/16" 3/8"-7/16" and a 1/2"-9/16". Center punch. Set of screw drivers flat and phillips (size from 000 to 3), minature socket/wrench set, dental picks, three disecting needles, tweezers & tongs (5 or 6 different heads/angels), two NMRA Mark III templates, Kadee coupler height gauge (2), scale rulers HO & N, pencils, razor point marker, tooth brush, a zillion jewlers files & tiny wood rasps, 1 regular small file, solder sucker, 2-56 tap, 2-49 tap, 0-90 tap, Kadee coupler plyer, three small grippers (two, three and five prong), magnet, positionible flashlight, magnefying glass, saftey goggles, Atlas razor knife, 5 various Xacto knives and extra blades, regular 1 sided razor blades, set of aligator clips, multi-meter, 1 set of AAA batteries, set of Labell grease & oil… Umm seems like I am forgetting something.

Oh yeah - sissors (4 different sizes).

Which tool box? I have two roll-a-ways full of MR stuff. And one large roll-a-way full of my tools. My friend has 10 roll-a-ways full of MR stuff. Not to mention 360 loco’s and 500 coal hoppers in N scale sitting in car boxes. So, I guess you need to be specific. As far as me…I think I have everything needed. Neat topic!

What’s a toolbox?

Ratchets, sockets, wrenches, screwdrivers, alan wrenches, air tools, a dremel, vice grips, anything a good mechanic has in his tool chest. Oh wait, you mean my model railroad toolbox! [D)] Same stuff only littler. Plus a few sprew nippers and a few pairs of tweesers.

Sounds just like Me![:I]

I bought a rolling cart from Wally World (Wal-Mart) and it’s been a godsend. I can keep my tools with me in whichever area on the layout I’m working on, and I don’t have to lay them on the layout when I’m there, either. It has 2 shelves, for clamps, soldering iron, etc. I keep the rest of the tools in two medium-sized totes. I attached a power strip to it, so power is no longer an issue either. I plan on wiring in some electrical receptacles around the layout, so I will have power where I need it.

You have Tools in your Toolbox?? Is THAT what those things are for?[:O] Aside from my mechanical type tools in the garage, my toolboxes are probably the most empty spaces in the house. [:-^]. My MR tools, for the most part are somewhat neatly arranged on my workbench, leaving about a 2 square foot of workspace in the middle. Toolboxes are a pain in the butt anyway. What you need is Always at the bottom of the box.[:(!] The tools you Don’t need somehow always rise to the top. Why? I don’t know. Maybe they feel neglected…

jewelers screwdriver
cordless drill
rail nippers
soldering iron & solder
wire
track joiners
pliers
tin snips…for some reason
sprue snippers
assortments of glue
nails/screws/nuts etc

Hmmm, good topic. Let’s see, in no particular order:

Shovel, long handle
Shovel, short handle
Spade
Rake
Hoe
5lb mallet
circular saw
jig saw
concrete mixing tub, 15 gallon
4ft pry bar
hatchet
xacto knife
caulking gun
air compressor, automotive
air compressor, air brush
razor saw, assorted
soldering gun/ soldering iron (3 wattages)
electrical pliars
complete set of auto-mechanic tools.
reciprocating saw
drill press/ cordless drill/ electric drill with bits
jewlers files and screwdrivers
pin-vice with bits
dremel motor tool with bits.
box cutters (#1 tool of all time)

I think that about sums up what I use on my garden railroad.

Third hand soldering aid.

Tom

every one you can think of.

HI
…So far only two things I think are missing 1] Dremal table saw and big brother 10" table saw 2] Dremal drill press atatchment, and full size brother one more full size scroll saw and small brother.

…Chuck…

one medium sized hammer

one large hammer

works for me…

I forgot to add Jig saw and Orbital sander. I also have many i mean many screwdrivers, I have probably 60 screwdrivers. becuase i can never find the one i need, i figure if i have enough of them i’m bound to find atleast one

I have a modest assortment of the usual tools for modeling and maintenance such as sprue cutters, razor knifes (one for cutting, the other for scraping), pin vise and drills, tweezers and pics, files, jewelers screwdrivers, clamps, etc.

An NWSL chopper and True sander I consider the artist liscence of a modeler.

For benchwork, I reach for general carpentry tools such as cordless and corded drills, table saw, sabre saw.

I don’t ahve a tool box but I have a junk drawer. also A pic of my work station.

The only ones left in the toolbox must be the ones I don’t use. All the other tools always seem to be all over the workbenches. One bench/ desk is for the fine modeling work and the other is a lab table for everything else. To to side is the stack of MR and modeling pics for past and ongoing projects. Sometimes it"s good to look back through this to see just how many unfinished projects there are. Kind of digging through the archives of time. Does this sound familiar, or is it just me. Waiting for those special detail parts or just plain time to do them. In the middle of a special kitbash for a certain loco, and then one is produced RTR exactly what you are looking for.
