Does anyone know what software Model Railroader Magazine uses for the track plan pictures?
I’ve never seen track plans drawn that well, and I wondered if the software was available for purchase.

Jon,
I’m glad you asked that because I was wondering myself.

One of the MR people can chime in, but I believe they use a high end commercial graphics package for the Mac. It’s not, AFAIK, a ‘track planning’ program, but more like a general illustration program. Maybe even Adobe Illustrator.

I think I read somewhere that it is just what it looks like:
a skilled artist using paper, ink and watercolors
Probably some high-end professional graphics program that has nothing to do with model railroading. Autocad or whatever the publishing/graphics industry uses.

MR had an article about this a few years back. I believe they mentioned using a Mac with Adobe Illustrator (as mentioned in previous message).
last I checked it was illustrator. You can do the same in freehand, however I would reccomend Illustrator over freehand.
Wish it was AutoCADD Imy designs would sure look better! Got to be Adobe BUT remember it is the SKILL of the operator NOT JUST THE SOFTWARE! I am reminded of that EVERY DAY!!
