What train related stuff did you get for Christmas?

I had asked Snata (wife) for a new Digitrax duplex radio throttle, but Santa’s Workshop (Digitrax) do not have them on the market. My alternate request was a power (air) Brad Nailer to use in assembling my domino benchwork. I guess Santa (Sears) did have them in his workshop as a very nice Craftsman brad nailer kit was under the tree. Saturday we are going to Denver to visit family and Santa (wife) has approved a stop at Caboose Hobbies!!!

These…

One on the left is pretty sweet. Well they both are, but definately the loco book.

Some building kits for the new town to be built, a couple of box cars that amazingly enough I can use and some flex-track. And I didn’t think Mrs.Santa even knew what HO meant let alone code 83. She got a smooch under the mistletoe.[:I]

I’m assuming you have and already know this, but juuust in case you’ve never used a rotary nozzle, be careful what you use it on. Don’t know what you plan on cleaning but it will do a nasty number on painted surfaces. But for what it’s good for…it’s real good.

Sorry about that. Back on topic, Todd

I got one of the greatest gifts ever; I woke up in my own home with my loving wife and son, all of us healthy and food on our table. I also remembered that (ugh) there’s a job waiting for me when I finish my vacation on Monday.

Oh yeah, train (hobby) related…to keep this on topic:

I was given 2 Kalmbach books:

The New Scenery Tips and Techniques and Realistic Model Railroad Building Blocks, an introduction to Layout Design Elements by Tony Koester. I also received 2 DVDs: Weathering Freight Cars Volume 1 and Volume 2 by Scott Mason.

Merry Christmas!

Don Z.

Delivery of the first car in Walthers 20th Century Limited. a 4-4-2 sleeper. Arrived on 12/23. Looks good but It will stay in the box until I get the whole set.

I can’t say my wife is enthuiastic about my hobby, but this year she did give me a train for Christmas.

It is TT (TurnTable) scale and uses SCP (Self Contained Propulsion). This is better than DCC or DC systems as it uses a chemical to electrical energy supply system know as AA. It came with it’s own caboose and uses KD (Kids Doit) couplings. Fully painted and decaled in the ‘Santa Express’ line, it has full inertia features (gradually slows as the battery goes flat). With the track provided it easily fits around an old 12" turntable so I don’t have to build another expensive layout in TT scale. I may have to weather the track to make it look more prototypical.

Merry Christmas and Happy new year!

Ho Ho Ho!

I asked for one, two or three different locos.

All I got was a repair bill for a transmission and an alternator.

I guess, however, that I will now have locomotion of the four wheeled rubber tired kind.

Funny, that.

I guess the only thing worse than not getting anything is just getting bills!

The wife just lets me pick out what I need. She doesn’t want to get the wrong items. Right now, its mainly layout stuff (ballast, foliage, etc). The track and what nots will be later.

Amen, Don… amen!

Oh… back on topic! I (we) got a 40 inch HD tv. To watch train videos on, of course! [:)]

My wife was sneaky this year—she kept asking for more money to do the shopping with(although I do the shopping–or at least I thought I did[%-)])–and gave me a NCE Power Cab DCC starter set and a couple of cylindrical hoppers while my BIL got me 10 40’ Boxcars. A lot of boxcars at ANY rate… then my sister gets me an ATLAS RS11 DCC loco…[swg]

----But the BEST gift is to be with loved ones—[angel][swg]

Loathar; The first/last time I used a powerwasher that big I had the nozzle pointed down at the ground–the deck–turned it on ----oooopppss–stupid-stupid-stupid–[:-^]

Geeeessshhh ,

All you guys lucked out!
I got a bag of coal!
And my stocking had some more lumps of coal in it!.
Well Santa, we’ll see if I leave you any cookies and milk out next year!!!
Next year, you 'll find a stale onion and a cold cup of decaff coffee and a set of dead batteries for your GPS! LOL!

Hee hee hee ol man, I 'll take a hammer to that coal and and smash it down into smaller pieces for loads for my coal hoppers!!!
The rest I’ll use for ballast!!!

Happy New Year! (Next relevent holiday thst I can think of—It’s December 26)

Dad and I hav a christmas to finish, but trainwise I got a nifty calendar Classic Trains 2009, A set of Roundhouse Bicentenial cars+loco, a paper towl roll holder for the workbench, Two sets of Sergent couplers, a spare uncoupling wand, and a set of Rotary couplers for the hoppers to test with. Also a Book, Stealing the General: The Great Locomotive Chase and the First Medal of Honor.

Then we went to Grandma’s. Fun until my new found cold set in. Here’s to a great next year.

You got that right, Don!

My biggest gift so far this Christmas was seeing my oldest son (who is 10) make the decision to not give his little bro (who is 7) a good whack on the head when our youngest “borrowed” and broke the very cool (and fairly fragile) flying insect helicopter toy our oldest had just gotten from grandpa.

Instead of giving little bro a good whack, our oldest told his little brother (who was crying) “it’s all right - it was an accident. What’s important is family, not toys”.

Anyways - train related stuff. I got a very much appreciated no-name double action airbrush and a can of propellant, so I can start experimenting a little with airbrushing.

Guess I’ll have to plan a little trip to the local hobby story to pick up some paint for airbrushing when the stores open again on Saturday (all stores except a few kiosks and gas stations are closed from 1 pm on Christmas Eve until the morning of December 27th over here).

Have a good Christmas, people!

Smile,
Stein

Hi all,

I got from the wife a Hornby N15 (King Arthur Class) 4-6-0 “Pendragon” in SR Olive Green. It looks great up alongside my new SR coaches.

Cut/Paste the link below into your web browser for a picture of my new loco:

Well, I’ll be having a late christmas present from my parents. An Athearn Genesis F45 with sound and DCC in BN. Athearn’s site is showing a release in late january (up from early december a month ago).

I did get something under the tree though, just not in the usual sense. Turns out some coal hoppers (NP and DT&I) that I bought on ebay and the TCS decoder I sent back to TCS for repair arrived Christmas eve when I was at work. My parents thought it would be funny to wrap them and put them under the tree. I did get 75 bucks in cash, maybe I’ll go and my something in P-cola.

My kids gave me,

2 Atlas GP38-2’s in CSX, 2 #'s

1 Atlas U23-B D&H Grey Ghost

1 Athearn GP40-2 Chessie

I didn’t get any train related stuff, but then again, I told my sister and girlfriend not to get me
anymore train stuff.I have so many kits that need built now, and track to lay, etc, I really don’t need anything
at the moment, except maybe some buddies to come over and help lay track, build kits, etc.
I think I must have about 150 kits of various kinds, rolling stock, and track and accessories picked up at train shows, swap shops, garage sales, etc.
But I did have a nice quiet Christmas with my family and friends.
Today is a good day to stay inside and work on trains, since we are havig another freezing rain storm here
here in the Fort Wayne Indiana area, roads are extremly slick and dangerous right now, with so many accidents and slide offs being reported by the news radio, I am going to stay in today. We are expecting thunderstorms, heavy rain later today. Right now it’s freezing rain and 26 to 28 degrees, and by tomorrow, it is supposed to be in the low 60’s with more thunderstorms and heavy rain.

This weather is crazy!

Best wishes to all!
