What Trains Did SANTA Bring you this Christmas???

The wife unit did well this year. [:D] I got a pair of a Athearn CSX GP40-2, but who knew that they still made non DCC ready trains, these were annouced in Dec of 2010. Got one DCC’ed, my first hard wired DC to DCC conversion but the other one I broke the front drive shaft but I have a Blue Box SP SD60 at my desk at work that I can take the drive shaft from on Tuesday.

Santa brought me a new GP38-2 from Bachmann with DCC on board and some wood for a new module! It’s been a very good Christmas.

Merry Christmas everyone!

I got a “Topside Creeper”,but my most important gift is renewed hope and faith that our same forum members will be here this time next year to answer to this same topic. Merry Christmas and hope that the new year brings good health and fortune to all.

I got the Books "Starter track plans’ and “Mid sized Track plans for Realistic layouts” a police car fo the layout, a tractor trailer and two walthers Evans 4780 3 bay covered hoppers.

Thanks MOM and DAD

Santa brought me an ATSF Auto-rack (Walthers GOLD Line) and a Kato SD38-2 (UPY #833) and some other non-train stuff. I recieved a Craftsman motor tool from my family, which I have been wanting/needing for a long time.

Merry Christmas!

The wife threw me a curve this year. Opened up the wrapping - the box says “Walthers” on the back. Wait, it’s a Proto E-unit!! O wow, let’s see, what railroad is it?? New York Central?? Burlington?? Undec?? Lift up the flap…there’s no engine inside.

She got me a $25 gift certificate for the LHS and stuck it in a box from one of my old engines. O well, it’s the thought that counts…??

[:S]

Tinplate…

Two packs of flawed castings from Stoney Mountain Classic, an HO Scale Aurora Mystery Machine (Scooby Doo). I have one pack of the castings so far, the other pack and the Scooby Doo van are still in the mail.

Add an Accurail DT&I covered hopper to that list. I couldn’t help but trip over it. I picked it up for $10!

I must have been a good boy!

Being as My Birthday was yesterday and Christmas today I received quite a few really nice gifts. Most from My Girlfriend, My Son and even from Santa…

I received the following…

a new 55-300 mm lense for My Sony a390 camera, So I can take better pic’s of trains…

a newly released book of the Great Western Railway

a 2012 Train calendar with Great Western Rwy locomotive #90 on the cover

a renewed subscription to Model railroader magazine.

a Busch airstream ho scale trailer

a pair of Mini Metals flatbed trailers ho scale

a 1950’s era low boy trailer kit ho scale

a High Rise Construction Site from Walters Cornerstone series

a lifelike roadwork set

some woodland scenics Railroad Workers.and a car with some girls washing it.

and a #4 turnout.

So I really made out… here’s a pic…

Santa and family sort of missed trains this year. Actually I had only listed a gift certificate to my LHS, as layout is in waiting and I have a lot of kits waiting to be built and scenery material ready to spread out. Did get a reasonable haul in other catagories considering the economy.

Friday I did get my order from MB Kline, so I do have some new N scale stuff for that project and a couple of HO vehicles for my current layout. One of them is a close representation of the truck my dad had when I was a kid. Hope to add a cover to the bed that resembles the one we could put on it.

In that order were also a couple things I used as gifts for my modeling friend here in town. Got them wrapped and delivered on Fri. We share expenses on travel and food at shows, as well as a couple of other things. It’s my way of making up the difference. Did get a plate of soft molasses cookies from his wife. Very tasty.

I have my health and plenty to do, so I have no complaints.

Holiday best to all of you.

Have fun,

Richard

If you like RUSH you’ll love the concert DVD. I play my music DVD’s while running trains.

What I got, A fifty dollar gift certificate at LHS. What I did not get, and was hopeing to have by now is my Bachmann ALCO 2-6-0 with snd from Caboose Hobbies. I guess there not in yet.

Truck.

Nothing, Santa said I was a very naughty boy this year [:'(]

Did he at least leave you COAL…so you can heat the house???

[8-|]

Yeah but if you were having fun being naughty, it might of been a good trade off.

Truck.

None!

I strongly discourage anyone, Santa included, from supplying me with anything remotely connected to my model railway. The last thing I want is people spending money on out of era or out of geographical area models that I would never use on the GER.

It’s NOT a “toy train set” where anything goes.

My sister in law gave me a 100 dollar gift certificate to my LHS, my mother in law gave me 200 cash for the purpose of buying a new locomotive. She went to the hobby shop but was told a gift certificate might be a better idea. My wife got me a brass ONR caboose and a couple Exact Rail boxcars and a couple buddies of mine chipped in and got me got me another Trueline U2g. That was totally unexpected.

Well, Some had good hauls, some had none,

let us hope everyone had some fun,

But let us not forget the true SPIRITof the Day,

Be it the The babe in a mager of hay

Or simply the SPIRIT of giving and sharing

That lets others know you are caring!

My wife and family were very generous this year. She said that with everything i went through with my surgeries, I deserve it. She is so good to me. I received half a dozen RR Athearn RR cars and a few model power vehicels. and a half a dozen building kits. My son got me two books on weathering and a Harbor Freight Airbrush Compressor set up. Very nice… i am blessed with a wonderful family, but i already knew that.

For some thirty years now I have been collecting Chinese made British OO scale models, mostly made by Kader (Bachmann). These are successors to the British made models, Tri-Ang and Hornby that we had as children.

Here in Australia, there is a serious mining boom under way and the financial crisis elsewhere has only been reflected in reduced purchasing of consumer goods while watching for any signs of recession.

Anyway, there has been a retail customer drought and hobby shops have been hit hard.

My local hobby shop decided to sell off the remaining stocks of Bachmann British OO passenger cars (only), not the locomotives or goods wagons, for $10 each, just prior to Christmas. I ended up with 21 cars…

Five Mk2 or 2A cars in 1966 blue/grey

Five Mk2 or 2A cars in Network Southeast

Five Mk 1 cars in Network Southeast

Six Mk 1 Mail Vans in Rail Express Systems

This adds missing eras and schemes to my collection. I already had appropriate locomotives for all of these trains…

I wasn’t the only crazy customer, or I might have ended up with more.
